I have an amana 90 home air conditioner w/ a amana prestige compressor. compessor runs but cooling fan not turning ,fan is not locked up and unit has power .of course w/fan not turning home is not cooling,any suggestions why the compessor fan has all of the sudden stopped working?

If that fan stopped your compressor overheated, shut off on thermal overload. Carefully cool compressor with water hose and restart. If the big copper is cold ,small copper warm, compressor is running. Check capacitor on compressor

Indoor or outside. Im pretty should the compressor has gone. If you turn it on does the indoor fan and outdoor fan work but not cooling . or does it not turn on at all.
have you checked your fuse box.

You need to replace the fan capacitor. Your compressor is probably in thermal overload you can cure this by turning off the disconnect your ac voltage and taking a cool water hose and running over the top of the compressor for a while. Then turn your disconnect back on and listen and feel of the big copper line to see if it gets cold and also listen to see if the compressor kicks on.

If the compressor is running at 90 there should be hot air coming out of the condensing units fan, if not it could be damaged valves in the compressor especially if the suction line is colder than normal like ice cold.
Obviously if the compressor is not running then you have other electrical problems.

first check you thermostat settings and make sure that it is on a cooling setting if ok it can be the fuse that sends the power to the outside unit if fuse is ok it can be the capasitor for the compressor if ok you may have to check the compressor for open windings or ground fault so you will have to replace the compressor or the relay which is after the thermostat

be aware that not repairing this asap that you are causing yourself more problems First I would change out the fan capacitor and see if this could be the problem. Secondly if the capacitor isn,t the problem change out the motor . By continuing to allow the system to cycle like this the compressor will take a dive on you costing more . Good Luck

check your circuit breaker.

This sounds like your contactor is fused shut. Normally the contactor disengages when your unit turns off, but if the unit is getting older and runs for long lengths of time the metal will actually meld together. I would have someone replace the contact switch. Good luck

Sounds like your unit may be a bit short of refrigerant and the compressor is therefore cutting out on low pressure.

Reset the unit to factory setting by take the master switch off of 10 sec.
Then press and hold the cool and heat button down while turning the master switch back on.
