On my PS3, it says that "the attempt to obtain ip address" has times out. i just want to know whether buying a new router would solve this problem? Plus tell me what you think can be...

You do not need to buy a new router, you just need to find out what the IP address is for the one you have.
then you have to look at your users manual under setup the IP address, and set it up...
An IP address has 000.000.000.000 each of the three numbers between the dots can be from 0-255.
It looks for an IP address for a certain period of time, when it cannot find the device's IP address that you have it hooked up to, it times out.
So, what ever device you have it hooked up to, you really need to know it's IP address.
to find out you need to call the manufacturer of the device and ask them what is the default IP address on the device you purchased. Or if you are hooked up to a cable modem the IP address should be on the label under the cable modem. Or you can call for a service call from the cable company for help.

My computer is telling me "limited or no connectivity." I spoke with my cable company and they said everything was ok on their end and to check with my modem. what should I do?

This error comes when there is same ip address in 2 computers.
So make sure in networks there are not same ip address.
You can also solve this issue with DHCP .
Enable DHCP in router.
For that Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link.
http://192.168.0.1
or
http://192.168.1.1
If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it.
Then it ask for user name and password.
Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank.
Then you can see configuration page of router.
.
Enable DHCP if you want to get ip from router.
Then set "ip get automatic " in network adapter property.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Limited or no connectivity

hi
just follow these steps

right click on my computer & click properties>> go to hardware>> device manager>> click on network adepters>> select your ethernet card (lan card) right click on it. select the option uninstall >> a window will show that r u sure u want to delete this driver click yes over there. then on the top of the device manager window click on action >>select scan for hardware changes. in a just a few sec the system will reinstall the driver for ur lan card. it will start working fine. in case if it doesn't work u have to use the static ip in ur lan card. for that just go to control panel>> click on network connection>> right click on network adepter>> click properties >> select internet protocol version 4 TCP/IP then click on properties >> put the dot on use the following ip address then type the ip the ip address (like these 192.168.0.2 ) on ip address on subnet mask it will be 255.255.255.0 on default gateway it will be ur routers ip address (like 192.168.0.1) on dns use the routers ip address again then just hit ok there u go ur problem is solved.

I am trying to set up PPTP connection to the internet on my WRV54G router (behind a cable modem). The set up calls for a fixed IP address, mask and gateway address, but my ISP is not providing those - only...

most cable companies are dhcp configured. so you would leave the wan config as default. the only thing i would do is mask the computer mac address. this should give you the access you need.

Cannot configure d-link 524 router to cable modem

Hmmm.... I would call the cable company and make sure that they are leasing an IP to your cable modem. I had this trouble one time when I had to move my wireless to another room. The procedure is to unplug everything and then reconnect them one by one starting with the cable modem. Since this router was used before, I would use the reset switch on the device to reset the router to factory settings before reconnecting it. Try that and see if it works. If it doesn't work then write back.

Change ip

Your IP address is assigned (leased) to you from your internet service provider. With that being said, you could possibly call them and ask to release your old IP address and have them assign a new one. If you happen to have a static IP address assigned from your ISP you can call them as well and ask to have your IP address changed too. It would be up to them to change it though.

Linksys wireless issue

Sounds like your pc is grabbing up an IP address but your Wireless router isn't.
Plug your cable into the Linksys just like you did before.
Your default ip will be something like 192.168.1.101

Open your web browser and type in 192.168.1.1
it should ask for a user and password
put in admin and admin, or just admin for the password and no username. I have not used that model so i'm not sure.

Find the administration page i believe. Then find "Mac Address Clone" select copy my mac address, and select the box for using the option, then save.

Reboot both devices (Unplug and plug them back in) and that should fix the problem.

As for wireless on the latop, do you have wireless working on anything else?
