Question about NAD C370 2-Channel Amplifier

1 Answer

NAD C370 Right channel distortion

Hi, bought this amp as new old stock last week. Worked fine for a few days. After leaving switched on unused for 3 or 4 days I noticed the protection light was red. Powered off to reset. Protection now remains off but the right channel is distortred and lower volume than left. Treble not too bad but bass sounds like the speaker woofer is knackered ( it's not). Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem except in my left channel. My NAD C370 worked fine till then. Any ideas about finding a local repair shop in San Antonio, TX?

Sounds like you have lost the power amp transistor(s) or IC for this channel.

Check first if you got +68/-68V on amp module left and right on contact CZ302 and CZ402 pin 2 & 7. Often the -68V is missing. This is caused by faulty transistor Q713 in +68/-68V power supply. It's a 2SA872.

Nad c370 keeps switching off

Check the speaker wiring for shorts, a common problem. If everything checks out there may be bad solder joints on the main board especially in the output stage, or there is a fault in one or more driver transistors.

Nad C320 right channel stops working then comes back again

This sounds like the "pre-amp" section is cutting out or there is some interruption in the signal path. A few things to try:

1) With the unit off, try "working" the volume, balance and tone controls. This means, turn them up and down a number of times to clear any debris that may be in the controls themselves.

2) Work the input selector switch the same way if it is a rotary switch.

3) Try turning on/off the tape monitor switch a few times.

4) Keep track of whether this problem is sensitive to heat. Does teh channel shut down more quickly once the unit has been on for a while?

Lastly, if you can solder, look for any solder joint that appears grainy or has rings and resolder it.

Update this with your results and we'll continue on...

Thanks,
Dan

No power at all on NAD C370

Read page nine for some simple troubleshooting tips and see if that helps.

It *could* be a fuse but given you've owned it for a while and NAD amps often have capacitor issues in the power supply, chances are it needs some serious work by a good tech. Contact NAD directly and see what they recommend.

Crackling power switch on NAD 3220PE

Hi, i would try flooding trhe switch with CRC 2-26 for a start. Itr may recover some contact integrity. A jerry rig solution would be to bridge the switch contacts and leave it on all the time(i leave my amps running all the time) or if as in Australia you have a switch on the wall socket use that,

OR purchase a new switch from here. Not sure how you would go through NAD, probably dont have any in stock as a spare these days.

or if that does not work out, I could get one to you through ebay. Used to be quite a common TV switch, but I also remember replacing then in Nad amps, many moons ago ;) I think I still have a one in stock myself, packed away from when I was a NAD service agent:)

This sounds like a problem with the protection circuit, and/or the speaker relays. More specifically, a capacitor within those circuits that is not behaving properly. I strongly suggest having it looked at ASAP.

HELP PLEASE. NAD 370 JUST DIED...

This could be as simple as a bad connection at the voltage regulator IC or blown output transistors. If you have a multimeter and some experience with electronics repair, this should be fairly straightforward.

Let me know and I'll try to walk you throught the repair.

Nad c370 problem....

Hi arda5
Did you try swapping speaker connections left for right on the back of the amp to isolate the problem. If the fault stays with the speaker, then that is where your problem is. Try this and get back to me here with the results.
