Question about Compaq Presario Notebook

1 Answer

Battery problem when I push the power button, my compaq laptop doesn't start. the green light for power button comes but no picture and no sound comes. I charged the battery for two and half hours and then the laptop was on. When I don't use for some days again the laptop doesn't respond after pushing the power button. the lights for battery as well as for AC power appears. As I am a new user I want to know that whether the starting problem occurs because the battery loses its power?

The power light comes on when I turn the computer on, and I can hear it running, but the screen stays black. Then, in about 20 seconds the power lights will go back off and everything shuts off...then the lights turn back on with a blank screen and this just keeps happening-on and off....does anyone know what this might be?

It could be an hardware problem. I had a similar issue on a dell laptop.
the AC power outlet that was loose. Try to put the power cabel in and see if it moves around. If that is the case you would need a new mother board.
If the power supply is broken, your laptop is not able recived the power. If the PC doesn't get the power it can't charge the battery.

Does the machine behaive as described also when it's plugged into the wall? Becase if this is the case, it can't be a battery related issue. Now, if it does it just when you are using the battery, than you are correct it may be a battery issue.

the battery could be old (battery do no last forever) or maybe it doesnt fits correctly in the machine.

Let me know,
Angela

How can i bypass my forgot admin password on my compaq armada e500

With the older Compaq Armada E500 Notebook PC, I believe;

1) Remove the CMOS battery.

2) Leave it out for 30 minutes.

3) Press the Power On button, and hold it for a count of 10 seconds. Let go of the Power On button.

Press it again. If the Power On light comes on, hold the Power On button in, until the light goes out. Keep pressing, and holding the Power On button in, until the Power On LED light does Not come on anymore.

Reinstall the CMOS battery. WAIT 1 minute, turn the laptop on.

If this doesn't do it, there is a capacitor inside the laptop keeping residual power. There may be two copper pads that are briefly touched across, to dissipate this residual power.

Perform the removal of the CMOS battery first. If this doesn't work I'll try to find info on the copper pads. (They are usually under the Wireless Card, and a small piece of Mylar plastic sheet)

Post back in a Comment as to your findings.

When I went to shut it down it had a few programs to shut down. I waited a few minutes then closed the lid down. It is now flashing on the first light symbol on the corner and when you open it up it turns...

Sounds like it is stuck in hibernate mode. Hold the power button down for 5 seconds and try to start it again. If it doesn't start remove the battery, unplug the laptop, hold the power button down for 60 seconds. Now plug in the power supply but leave the battery out. Turn it on. It should start now and you can re-insert the battery.

The little green light comes on ... computer makes a starting sound but does not start! A couple to times the computer did start up but then shut down by itself. At times the back elec. cable needs to...

1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
2. Make sure the power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.
3. Make sure the DC jack is not loose or broken. A loose DC jack will need to be re-soldered. A broken one will need to be replaced.
4. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work
5. The power button could be bad
.
6. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced.

Pushed the on button, the green light comes on,

Green light comes on, what about other indicator lights? Is there activity like fans humming. Try to take out the battery and power up using the ac adapter only.

Problem HP Compaq nx 7300 Yelllow light 8x

Have you had previous problems with your laptop power supply and battery? I have this same laptop and use it very regularly. I do have problems with battery life, but never actually powering on. I suspect the battery is not accepting a charge. My suggestion is to replace the battery and see how things go.

C500 Laptop won't come on power button just flashes

Have you tried attaching an external monitor when the LCD screen is disconnected from the motherboard? this connector is located under the keyboard strip – a piece of plastic just above the keyboard.
If it works, this way, then the video cable isn’t seated properly in the connector on the back of the screen. Plugging the video cable back in should fix the problem.
I don’t know how comfortable you are with taking apart laptops but I think that this information could be useful for you.

I have a Evo N115 Compaq computer laptop and computer will not come on. The green light comes on when you push the ''on'' button but that is all. What do I need to do?

I have the same problem. When I follow these steps the laptop finally starts.

1) Let the bottom of the laptop somewhere you can warm up it a bit. Be very careful about this. The laptop´s bottom is made of plastic !. In summer I leave the laptop upside down under the sun for about 15 minutes and it´s ok.

2) Plug and unplug the dc connector (not the one at the ac outlet), wait until the small green led lights and inmediatly after it happens, press the power button.

3) Repeat step 2 as many times as necessary.

4) Do not shutdown the laptop. Always choose ´suspend´.

Good luck !
