You do not appear to have answered my question, this power supply is built from many components some of which fail from time to time, they are all soldered to the board which means they can be replaced. ageing components cause failures. The faults can usually traced to resistors, capacitors power transistors transformers etc. through the use of schematic diagrams.

Change the power supply or get a technician is not the expected answer from a television technician

Stuck in standby can be caused by c877 and c878 both box type caps 15n 400v. But the fault which is causing most of this is Q837 suface mounted transistor type bsh103 which is connected to pin 8 of sg3525a control ic807.

uses common psu type 17pw15-8 vestel . disconnecting collector of Q837 will allow set to start - recommend replacing . q837 is in the soft start of ic825.

Try changing the two 15n caps c877, c878 at the top left of the psu.
Or the 1000uf c806 at the center of the psu

Why does my hitachi lcd television go to standby after watching it a while?

Fault with the main power supply regulator board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.

It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and precious time.

I cant get our hitachi 42hds69 out of standby mode. I have unpligged the tv as well as turned off and on the main power

Hello,

there are several things that could keep a set from coming out of standby mode. It could be a defective power supply or a defective main board. You will need to have the set diagnosed to see why and which board is causing the problem.

Standby mode

Standby power supply runs 7/24 and this should indicate it is not allowing main power supply and hence the set to turn on= short someplace is most likely issue.

Hitachi LCD L42S504 not working

If only 5 volts likely the standby supply is working:

ISSUES:

1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.
2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.
3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.
4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.

Answers to issues:

1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.

2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not.

Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom.

What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.

3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have tobuy and try a board to see if it fixes it or not.

4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.

Hi My Hitachi is in standby mode (not turning on - only have red standby light on). I have visually checked capacitors on 3 main boards and none appear to have expanded. Any ideas please?

First thing to do is measure the output voltages of the power board. You're looking for the one that provides standby power, usually +5V or +3.4 V and in some rare cases other voltages.

Don't know what it is for your TV, but it will sure be available on the power board if you see the red LED there.

Next you look to see if upon pressing power the main board signals to the power board to turn itself fully on, i.e. start generating the rest of the supply voltages.

There's a pin on the power board's connectors that is labelled "PS_ON" or just "ON" or something similar.

It should raise to +3V or so when you press the ON button.

For an example of a simple power board see this:
http://blog.coppelltvrepair.com/2010/09/how-to-test-power-supply-r0804-0901.html

If you do not receive that signal then the problem is in the main board.
if you receive that signal, but the power board does not generate the additional voltages that it outputs to the other boards then the problem is in there.
And if it wakes up and provides those voltages but the TV is still dead then the problem is in the main board, which usually needs to be replaced.

Hope this helps. If it does do not forget to rate it :-)

if you need more help - supposedly paid though - feel free to contact us.

Re: standby mode???

No really the standby mode dosent mean the sets fried or unrepairable. It just means that the sets in a shutdown mode till a power supply problem is corrected. They have shut down protection when the power supply dosent regulate the b+ and if it didnt shut down it would give off tons of X type radiation. thats just a safty on the set. seek a pro to assist you in repairing the set. Good Luck
