The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

Should i unplug (usb cable) canvio desk without shutdown computer

You can, but if it's writing to the disk when you disconnect, it could cause errors.
The safer thing to do is... look in the bottom right hand corner of your monitor. Click on the icon that is a USB plug with a green checkmark on it. Then click eject drive. The computer will pop up a window that says it is safe to remove hardware. Then you can unplug the drive.

Can you transfer your Dongle to a usb stick and use windows 7 for 3D software insted of windows XP?

I took a class a couple of days ago at my local Husqvarna Viking store and my dongle wasn't working so the lady asked if I could used the cable. I have a Designer Topaz 20 and it didn't have the correct port to use the cable but U did have another USB drive and we were able to transfer the embroidery design to that and it worked just fine. I spoke with the manager yesterday about the dongle issues I have had ans she said that I can use any USB drive as long as it isn't too big because the machine can't read a drive bigger that 8GM. She says if you have more than that it take a really long time for the embroidery patterns to load. I hope that helps.

On a side note, I really wish this site didn't categorize Husqvarna Viking Products under "Floppy Drives". Yes, our embroidery machines are computers but it's not likely that the techy folks looking in the floppy drives category can even help us.
Hey, Fixya can we have a Husqvarna Viking category for sewing & embroidery machines?

Hi Welcome to FixYa!
I am having the same scenario too sometimes.. What i usually do if the drive is not in use, I turn off the computer first then unplug my external hdd. in that case, the computer is completely off as well as the drive. But if you feel like its a hassle of turning down the machine for you to remove the drive, you could try the following steps:
There is a setting for the USB drives which tells the OS how to optimize their usage. Either it is optimized for Quick Removal or for Performance. To check it, do the following:
-Right click on the USB drive icon in My Computer. -Select the Hardware tab. -Select your USB drive and click on Properties. -Now click on Policies tab.

mondimondz_4.gif

Optimize for Quick removal This setting disables write caching on the disk so that you can disconnect this drive without using theSafely Remove Hardware icon.
Optimize for Performance This setting enables the write caching on the disk so as to improve disk performance. To disconnect this drive, you should use the Safely Remove Hardware icon so as not to hurt your USB drive.
Hope this would help!

How do I use your Verbatim? Please give me instructions

From Verbatim "Installing your portable hard drive is extremely simple - just use the included mini-USB cable to connect your hard drive to any free USB port on your computer. On Windows computers, a new icon will appear in My Computer representing your hard drive. On Mac OS systems, your hard drive will appear on the desktop as a new disk."

https://www.easeus.com has recovery programs.
First off, I assume that you have a USB Hard drive that use between computers. One big mistake people make when moving a USB device from the computer is they fail to use the EJECT method. For example, when you go to File Explorer and select a drive from the "This PC" whereby all attached devices are listed and you are able to make a section from the icons showing on the screen. Assume you bring up a USB Drive, use the drive for some reason, and then when finished, you simply PULL the USB drive out by hand. NO! Use the eject format to disconnect the USB drive so you do not create STATIC Charge. Down at the lower right side of the computer screen is a ^. Hit that and Icons come up. An Icon that looks like a USB device (may be upper left) is the safety removal tool. The hard disc you have may have been statically charged and thus the FORMAT may have been damaged. Without a format, the drive is not capable of being read. Repair programs have the ability to read sectors and lift data that was lost to a Format problem.

First of all it is not that necessary to click the Unplug Eject Icon for removing the Hard Disk. Default with Windows XP Opearating System there is a option for removing the USB External Devices without clicking the Unplug Icon. So no need to worry.
