My 3 yr old whirlpool fridge has been constantly running for the last few days. The temps in the fridge and freezer portions are running high and the sides of the fridge are warm to the touch. What they heck is going wrong with my fridge?

Hi, it sounds like your having problems with the thermostat ,they don't last for ever. I had the same problem with a fridge freezer and i got the temp thermostat replaced. You have a modern unit and you may have two but i think you have to look at the ice cube maker side first. Check that the water supply is getting to it.Have a look at your manual or you can type in the make and model and look up online .

don't forget that just turning down your fridge temp dose not mean your problem might be over yet. the freezer setting may also be too high & that will affect your fridge temp as well. i set both my control settings to around 50% of what is on the scale & that works perfect for my 7 yr old fridge. also, very important, is make sure the freezer portion is going through it's full defrost cycles, or it will freeze the upper portion inside the fridge. you should not have any frost build up in your fridge, nor should you have any in your freezer. that's why they call them FROST FREE. try the slow temp decrease over a period of a few days & hopefully that will work for you. good luck.

Hey i think they freze free lol and thers no tubes they are connected by chanels/ tunels blockes at the back fron freezer down. Reg temp yr nobe controler could b gone or temp module. So thats why it wont help lol check if the temp changes after yr turning it, so atleast u can iluminate that.. if it is working. Than i would sugest next checking yr front doors rubers and magnets on them all the way and both doors.. as wen it gets old it could b having gaps so there 4 it will not close the dore properly and u wont even know or notice and if thats the case. Thats why it running inside, as it not fully and all aront germeticky closed .. hooe that helps you . G/luck ??.. Tony

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge.The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

Probably excessive ice in the condensor. Likely defrost thermostat or defrost heater problem.

What happens is excessive ice keeps airflow from the refrigerator part of the unit.

try checking the fan in the freezer at the top which pushes the coldness over to the freezer

I had a similar problem where my evaporator coil was freezing into a block of ice, which caused my fridge to warm up due to a lack of air flow. I fixed this by doing a few things. I replaced the circuit board ($100) which was easy to do. Unfortunately, this didn't fix my problem so I took the inner fridge cover off to view the evaporator/heater coil assembly. I checked my thermo fuse and found it to be open (failed). I ordered the thermo fuse and the thermistor and replaced them both. I then plugged the fridge back up and put a regular thermometer inside the fridge to get an accurate reading of inside temp. A few days now and everything looks good. The board, fuse, and thermistor were all pretty easy to replace.

refrigerator recycles constantally.

when you said fans working....does it include the condenser fan? or it may have two evaporator fans..

if condenser fan is working, then it is just normal. if the compressor is running, that part would really heat up. and if it is too hot, then the condenser fan could probably not running.

its not constant because the compressor cuts off when ever the thermostat cuts off.
