Fax recipt problems for Canon MF4150

I read you previous answer about problems with receiving faxes. The problem is that the machine doesn't have settings for "# of rings" but rather for seconds. I too, have a DSL line,a nd am using the filter between the incoming data line. I am trying to also have the answering machine hooked up, which Canon's manual says has to be connected to the fax, not seperate. Can anyone help?

I'm going out on a limb here, and guessing it's a Canon imageClass MF4150... If not, please disregard this solution.

The advanced manual can be viewed / downloaded / printed here, directly from Canon:

To stop it from interfering with the telephone conversation:

Setting the Receive Mode

  2. Use <la.gif> or <ra.gif> to select [5 FAX SETTINGS], then press <OK>.

  3. Use <la.gif> or <ra.gif> to select [3 RX SETTINGS], then press <OK>.

  4. Use <la.gif> or <ra.gif> to select [3 RX MODE], then press <OK>.

  5. Use <la.gif> or <ra.gif> to select the desired receive mode, then press <OK>.

If [AnsMode], [FAX/TEL], or [DRPD] is selected, you can select some settings as below:

    [AnsMode]
--- [AnsMode CHK TIME] (select time from 10 to 30 seconds for the answering machine to start playing outgoing message after receiving a call)
--- [FAX DETECT TIME] (select the duration from 10 to 70 seconds for the fax to detect)

    [FAX/TEL]
--- [RING START TIME] (select the time from 0 to 30 seconds for the phone to start ringing after receiving a call)
--- [F/T RING TIME] (select the duration of ringing from 10 to 45 seconds)
--- [F/T SWITCH ACTION] (select the action the machine will take after the ringing ends, Receive or Disconnect)

    [DRPD]
    --- [NORMAL RING]
    --- [DOUBLE RING]
    --- [SHORT-SHORT-LONG]
    --- [SHORT-LONG-SHORT]
    --- [OTHER RING TYPE]
  6. Press <Stop/Reset> to return to the standby display.

Pixma MP530 Fax Problems

I am having a similar problem. You do have to connect your phone to the jack in the machine in the "Phone" jack slot, as well as have another line out to the jack in the wall in the "L" slot. That is all I know. I am having problems with my voicemail. Either I can received voicemail, and no faxes, or faxes, and no voicemail (fax picks up at specified number of rings). It is EXTREMELY frustrating. The machine is *supposed* to be able to discern between phone calls and faxes..and that is not happening.

Have you come across a solution? Aghhhhh!

Canon imageCLASS® MF4150 All-In-One picks up all calls on our second line.

I got in touch with the manufacturer tech support and found there was no way around it. Thanks for considering my issue though :)

CANON IMAGECLASS MF4150

If you are using the phone while trying to send or receive a fax, it will not work.

There were some devices out that would allow you to do this, but they never really worked that well.

If you want to be on the phone, and send or receive a fax, you will need a second line for the fax machine, or you need to use a service like eFax (it sends a fiax like sending email)

Auto-answer issue: fax beeps on line when voicecall received

Try changing the receive mode from automatic to FAX ONLY and set the number of fax rings higher. You should be able to receive phone calls and if you are not answering your phone it will automatically receive a fax.
