Question about Maytag Neptune MAH5500B Front Load Washer

MAH4000AWW- Boot Seal

I recently purchased a Boot Drain P/N 12002533 with the idea of replacing the original moldy one.  Now I realize there are other parts needed (which I don't yet have) for a more thorough " fix " .
For example: drain hose P/N 22003071 (or 22004477 ?), hose guard 22003074, wire clamp 22003072, and inner door 22003212.  Is this fix meaningful ? Now I'm thinking of just replacing the boot seal (with the plug in) . The mold has not been a major issue, until just recently, and the fresh seal might at least look nice for awhile. What do you think ?

Thanks,

Friend,
ngfam1 At your service!

It is is normal for the Neptune to have water left in the inner tub after the wash finishes!
I used to have a Neptune and I sold them too!!
I had them change that drain under warranty when it was new and it never stopped the smell or the mold!
After the third repair I threw it in the trash and bought a Speed Queen Commercial grade washer and thats the last one I will ever by!
8 loads a week for 25 years!!!!!!!

****************************************************************
The moldy oder problem is in every Maytag Neptune made!
The Neptune comes new with water in it from the test run!
All the water never gets totally discharged. This is one reason why everyone complains about the moldy, musky or even stinky smell of the Neptune! Every day I have people here asking what too do about the moldy wet smell!
THIS IS SERIOUS!!!!!

I do tell them to run the washer once a week without clothes and with hot water and 1/4 cup of bleach. And then make suer to do only white clothes directly after wards as not to get a drop of beach water on a colored article of clothing!
Then leave the door open after every load when not in use!
That's Maytag!!!!!!!!
GOOD THING WHIRLPOOL JUST BOUGHT THEM OUT LAST YEAR!
Perhaps they will make some good changes!!

Hope this helps and makes you feel a little better as to some water sounds! HOW OLD IS THE WASHER??????

Below I referred you to a great service nation wide!

And tips with pictures can be found here:

I stumbled upon this while having another issue with a later model Neptune. This didn't fix my problem, but this sounds like something you may want to look into.
Here's a link from applianceaid.com that points to a replacement seal if you need one:

Not sure if that'll do the trick, but worth a look! I hope that helps!

I recently purchased a home which this washer was included. It has a moldy odor. I cleaned it out under rubber ring but seems to keep coming back. What can I do?

The door seal will need to be replaced. Once the mold sets in deep it will keep reappearing every couple weeks or so. Here is a link that will help with the door seal. It's a different model but a similar procedure would be used. Replacing a door seal

I have always had a smell coming from my duet washer. I put bleach in and run it through a rinse cycle, but it always comes back

there may be some dirt or other things collecting in the drain boot attatch to the drain pump there is usually a plastic coin trap located inside the rubber boot his will cause a musty smell in the washer.as well as a moldy door boot seal.if the door boot is moldy it needs to be replaced.

Water won't completely drain from tub. Door seal is very moldy.

Had a simular problem. In my unit the water was not visible in the drum but you could hear it when you turned the drum by hand.  The answer as told to me by the Maytag repair man:  The machine is designed to hold the water after the cycle is complete.  As he was replacing the boot seal he suggested to just leave the door open so the seal will dry out and not mold.  This has been working for the past several years.  No mold has appeared on the new boot seal.

From another source I read that the water is left in the machine for balance.

How to change Maytag Neptune Washer Boot Drain 12002533

you should just have to take the back panel off. and you should see the drain pump and where it the hose that goes from the tub to the drain pump. its not very fun to do. make sure you have channel locks and vise grips are also nice sometimes. and watch out for your fingers they might get pinched. good luck

Change rubber gasket

Remove the door hinges and plastic covers on the unused hinge screw holes on the opposite side of the door opening (door is reversable, so there are places to mount hinges left and right). Front panel will now snap out at top and lift off lower spring clips. One screw on each side will now release top panel and it will hinge up. Prop up with broom handle or something. Now you can get at everthing. Rubber gasket is held onto drum with a cable loop and very strong spring. It rolls off the lip easily to disassemble but is VERY difficult to get back on without special tools or at least two people. We used strong vice grips and much struggling and sweat, and #@*&%!&@ and finally got it on without damage to the new gasket. Door side of rubber gasket is easy in comparison with rubber tabs inserted into slots and working the gasket into a groove. Hose clamp at bottom of rubber gasket to connect drain hose.
