Question about Computers & Internet
I am using a Pavilion ze4145 laptop that was bought a few years ago. It was a friend of mine who gave it to me and said I could keep it if I could fix it, and get his data off of it. After solving several problems with the fan, ac cord, and BIOS, I was able to get the thing going.
However, the battery will not hold a charge and the status light is blinking amber. I went troubleshooting and tried everything the HP website had to offer. Nothing has worked. When I calibrate the battery, it takes only a few minutes when it should be taking several hours. I figure that it just won't hold a charge. It is a Lithium Ion battery so it shouldn't have the memory effect.
I don't know much about how the guy treated this computer before I got it, but am certain that even though he doesn't know much, he took the best care possible.
I am not looking to buy a new battery, but will if I need to, and if it's certain that the battery is the problem. Battery icon shows 0% but when the adaptor is plugged in it shows its "plugged in and charging" but battery doesn't charge. 0% still shows for battery. When I unplug the AC adaptor laptop goes dead.
I did not take any troubleshooting steps. I don't know what to do. Need help please.
TRY PUTTING THE BATTERY IN A ZIPLOC BAG AND LEAVE IN THE FREEZER OVER
NIGHT. THE NEXT DAY TAKE IT OUT & LET IT WARM TO ROOM TEMP, WIPING
OFF ANY CONDENSATION. THIS MAY PERMIT IT TO CHARGE. THIS IS
A DESIGN PROBLEM WITH THE BATTERIES THAT ACER BUYS FROM WHOEVER (MAYBE
FROM CHINA??), WHICH ALLOWS THE BATTERY TO SELF-DISCHARGE ALL THE WAY
WHEN IT SITS FOR A WHILE.
I DON'T KNOW WHY THE FREEZER TREATMENT WORKS BUT IT DOES. I DO KNOW THAT FREEZING RE-CHARGEABLE BATTERIES THAT ARE ALREADY FULLY CHARGED ENABLES THEM TO HOLD THE CHARGE A LONG TIME - I DO THIS ALL THE TIME WITH NICADS, NICKEL-METAL HYDRIDES, ETC.
HOPE THIS HELPS & APPARENTLY WE NEED TO LEAVE THESE THINGS ON CHARGE ALL THE TIME. :-(

That is normal, when Lithiumbattery is faulty, charger light stays on and battery does not charge, and stay 0% or low charge.
You have a useless faulty battery, when charger contacts are defective you do not get charging light.
You need to buy a new battery, this is not an expensive part:
You get it here for $66
