Check your AC Adapter, see if it still lite green. If AC Adapter working fine... Then it's your backlight inverter need to be replaced. Wanna saved $$$ and repaired yourself??? Then followed these simple tips... Need to tested your capacitors for leaked or burnt out.. One way to checked...it to look for a pluffed on top of the caps. If it has a pluffed replaced those caps. Not sure....just replaced all the caps....Hehehe... Good lucks!

I have exact same problem but mine happened to 2 of my x2gen monitors at the same time, really strange.
One was purchased 01/07 and the second 04/07
Took my PC in, no problems
Took one of the x2gen in,was told monitor is bad
How could both monitors go bad at the same time???????
Your monitor has brightness and contrast controls either on the bottom or the right side. Sometimes you have to push the menu button and then scroll to the proper setting. If this is the case, there will be an "up" and a "down" button to use. Once you are in the correct menu, you will have to push the menu button or the enter button to activate the setting. This all depends on the monitor model.
Unfortunately, the x2gen company has declared bankruptcy and gone out of business due to legal trouble (x2gen.com). Manuals are no longer available online.
Unless you can find someone who can read the menus for you, or has an old manual laying around, I can pose a couple alternative, albeit tedious, solutions.
Using http://babelfish.altavista.com/ you can translate your menu... that is, you can type "BRIGHTNESS" in English, and request the Japanese translation. Locate the text in the menu that matches the translation. Tedious, yes, but it would work. To use this for non-arabic based character sets, you will need to install a Japanese font on your system, otherwise the text will return as "?????" question marks (in place of each Japanese character).
Another alternative would be to take a photograph of your menu screen and submit it to a forum to have an online user do the translation for you...
Just some ideas - hopefully you can make some progress...
Dark spots indicator that the Liquid crystals are not being dispursed properly when the monitor is powered on! That could be a problem! In additon it depends on how old the monitor is as well or how new because nothing is guaranteed! Monitor is going bad!
I would suggest you upgrade the video card something like the card in this link! Please note it specifically states on the box that it is for Mac G5. You also need at least 512MB system memory and osX 10.3.6 or higher.
Cheers & Good luck.
