LG tv remote won't work

Our LG remote won't work. Yes, we replaced the batteries, and even tried a universal remote. Can't get either to work.

The infrared receiver on the TV is not working. None of our remotes will control the TV and the LG TV remote control still controls the other devices it is programmed for. Problem is obviously in the TV.

Sensor just stopped working as well

Within several second after power up, the remote and some of the control keys on the side does not work. It seems to be temperature dependent. If switching input power on an off problem persists. However, if allowing to cool down, after powering up, for several second the remote is functional.

SOURCE: Remote sensor on TV (LG 42PM1MA) seems to be broken.

Have the technician check for 5 volts on the remote IR Sensor if present the the Remote sensor has failed. Have him replace it to factory Spec's. No need to replace entire main board when the sensor is no more 5 dollars....

My remote won't work. Batteries are new.

Check its battery contacts inside the battery compartment for any rust or dust accumulated, which prevents good electrical contacts with batteries. Insert batteries after cleaning them well. If it do not help you, check for its infrared emission. If you wish to get more details about how to check a remote control, visit this site. Pull up older posts there. One among has detailed description.

Incompatibility. You may have to go for its original remote. Look through the operation manual and buy a replacement of the correct model.

Why won't any universal remotes work with my LG tv?

The two possible reasons are:

1. None of the codes are correct for this model.

2. The remote infrared receiver in the set is bad.

(maybe the reason the other person got rid of the set?)

There are some ways around this depending on how you hook up and what you have for signal:

If a box (cable or sat) is connected to one of the sets of audio/video jacks on the set--switch to that input and change channels etc with the box!

Use the box remote for functions like channel and sound etc.

LCD 42 LG TV won't change channels with channel button only with numbers

First check with fresh batteries. that does not resolve it If a universal remote- try a different code. If original remote, press the "TV" button first to make sure it is using the right parameters. If still not resolved, the issue may reside in the IR circuit of the set.

Hi, You need a code to match with your TV remote. The codes for the Ge universal remote for Sanyo are 0049 0097 0110 0004 0268 0012 0108 0180. You will have to try each code seperately untill you get one that works. Good luck.

Remote won't work. Tried new batteries, reprogramming, etc. Universal Remote doesn't work either. LG #42PC5DC

Hi,
To confirmed if the remote control is working fine, aim the remote control sensor(IR emitter) directly to your cellphone camera. While pressing any button key on the remote control, you can see the flash of an infrared emitted by the remote control if it is working fine.

If you've confirmed that the remote control emitted an infrared but still the tv won't communicate with it, this is an indication of faulty IR sensor board of the TV. Check if there's an obstruction from the IR receiver in front. Keep away all of it, clean the plastic window of the IR receiver with soft clean cloth.
If the symptoms still persist, you have to replace the IR sensor board. Check the actual part no. of the board before ordering.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

Remote works but TV does not receive

The IR reciever failure rate on LG tv's is fairly high. A few things to try first.
  1. Clean the IR window on the TV.
  2. Fresh batteries in remote(even though it works other devices)
  3. If you have a universal remote, program it to the tv for testing puposes.
Let me know your findings and we can go from there. Lone99star
