How to wireless connect to internet

Welcome to FixYa! Based on your question it will depend if you are using a laptop or a desktop. Desktop:
  • Check first if it has a wireless adapter installed or built in on the computer.(If it does not have one you could use a broadband usb stick for wireless connection.)
  • If it has a built in wireless adapter, look on the lower right hand side of your computer and look for the wireless icon (look at the image below).2q==9k=z
  • Look for connect to a network, click on it. It will ask for a network name where you want to get connected(This will be based on what modem/router you are using if its wireless. If it is, there will be a wireless name(SSID) provided for it and a password(WPA Key) that you will need to set it up.) Just enter the SSID and then WPA on the field that you'll see in your monitor. Then just click connect. This should get you connected. Its the same process for a laptop.

Cannot enable wireless on my Acer Aspire 5612WLMi

First, does the modem show up in the device manager (without an exclamation mark or an "x". In other words, does the computer see the card and is it not reporting any problems.
Second, do you see the wireless connection when you go into My Network Places and Network Connections?
Third, does the wireless connection icon appear in the system tray?

I think you need to specify the gateway address in your new laptop. For that you have to know the gateway address ( i,e. the IP address of your boardband router/ adsl modem.).

First, go to your old laptop, right click on My Network Places, Right click on the wireless lan connection and select properties. Click on Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) and click properties.
Take a note of the Default gateway.
Now come to your new laptop, use the procedure mentioned above to open the Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) Properties box. Type in the Default gateway address which you have noted earlier. Click ok twice. Now see if you can access the internet. If you can't then let me know the IP address configuration of both your old and new laptops.
