Top dishes don't come clean

I have had my dishwasher about 3 years. Top dishes don't come clean but are covered in gritty material. I need to take them and wash them by hand. What's the point.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Dear friend,
ngfam at you service! happy to assist!

Go into the user manual and read how to properly load your dishes to get the maximum cleaning potential!
there are certain ways to load the dishwasher that allows the spry to hit all the dishes.
Second check the bottom of the dishwasher if there are food particles left on the bottom at the end of the wash!
They can be the problem if they are recirculating back onto the dishes and then drying on them when the dry cycle goes on!
Third, They sell for about 5 to 8 dollars a small box of dishwasher
cleaner that you ad and run with no dishes in it 2 times a year!
And last, there may be a problem withe the drain or pump that its not pumping out all the wash water!
If this is the case you need service to check it out before some one in your family gets violently ill..!

We sell appliances for 65 years and I recommend this nation wide Factory repair service to all my retail customers!!

Call A&E Factory Service /They service nation wide

no it does not make a different what form of soap you use!
Did you check the user guide to see how to most efficiently
    load the dishes?
My wife just throws them in any old way and then she complains to me they are not Clean !
Was there any stuff at the bottom of the dishwasher?
Did you buy the dishwasher cleaner soap to run a cycle with it and no dishes??

    HOW DID THESE TESTS DO?????

Milky water when rinsing in dishwasher & gritty covering on dishes

I have spent many years (47) in the catering industry using catering dishwashers, under counter models, corner- wash stations and also conveyer machines..

The milky water is a by-product of the wash water and rinse water mixing.

The spray are has to rotate freely or the dishes won't wash or rinse properly. They spins a lot faster than you realise and this adds pressure to the water, but also a pulsating effect to remove dirt.

Over doing the salt can cause more problems that it solves. The gritty film may indeed BE salt. I actually prefer Calgon as a softener.

My advice is to remove both top and bottom spray arms. Check the slots/holes for obstruction, and run water through them under a tap, outside to inside (the opposite to how it is in the machine) rocking the arms up and down to allow any obstructions to flush out. Lemon pips and toothpicks are out biggest problem! Put the arms back and make sure they spin freely. Sometimes they just lock up for no apparent reason!

Use CLR descaler in the machine to clean it using the instructions on the bottle. Then run the dishwasher using the recommended doses of detergent and rinse aid.

Do you have hard water? Many states have passed laws that outlawed phosphate as an ingredient in dishwasher detergent. If you have hard water, the detergents don't work very well anymore. The residue is probably hard water deposits (calcium and magnesium). Not harmful but it looks awful on your dishes. There are some new products that were designed to solve this exact problem. They are inexpensive and effective. Can't say the name or I'll get banned (again). Internet search will uncover it.

We get a gritty / sandy residue. what can I do?

The cause may not be your dishwasher.
Especially hard water may leave the residue. If you don't have that problem when you hand-wash, then check your pipes. Homes more than 40 years old may have galvanized pipes that eventually rust on the inside. The grit could be grains of rust from the pipes. If you do have galvanized pipes (rather than copper) then you may need to replace them. You could put in a filter as a temporary work-around, but that will eventually clog with the gritty material.

Dish washer 3 1/2 yrs old making a growling/vibrating sound.

The problem is hard water. There is a new product out called the dishwasher filtration system. It filters the water before it enters your dishwasher. It works amazing and has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look after the first load. It is also very affordable (like 70 bucks). Go to www.dishwasherfilter.com to find out more info.

I just took mine apart (bottom turntable, screen, etc.) and I was disgusted by the grime and gum that was clogging everything. I think it was keeping all the water a gritty white, which constantly left residue. I am currently running a load... hope that the "clean" dishwasher actually washes my dishes now!

i would guess that you run out of hot water in your house pretty quickly. if so, your water heater tank needs drained. hook a hose to the bottom outlet on the tank. shut off the cold water supply to the tank. open up the hot water on a nearby sink. drain the tank into a sump or a drain or a bucket that is lower than the tank. it will cost you 40 or 50 gallons of water, but it should clear up the sediment that you see floating in your hot water supply. you might have to do it twice. good luck

KitchenAid KUDR01TJ Dishwasher Cleaning Problem

Sinder...this sounds more like a water temperature issue than anything else. First, turn on your hot tap. If you can't hold your hand under it after it fully heats (over 125)...you should be okay. If not, raise your water temp or use the sani cycle to raise the temp. Change brands of detergent. Salt...I don't think so. You're using detergent...not soap...which would have been affected. Pressure should not be an issue...once the unit is filled, it makes its own pressure recirculating with the wash pump.
