Question about Microwave Ovens

2 Answers

Amana RFS12SW2 microwave. Mag is overheating; the TCO is working properly and shuts the oven off at 325 degrees F. I replaced it for good measure and it made no difference. It takes on average 2 minutes of running time to get to this point. The transformer is reading 85 ohms on the secondary. This Mag is a replacement for the one that was discolored on the plastic where you connect the two high voltage wires. I am a novice at this and I'm stumped as to what to do. Thanks for any help.

Is the cooling fan working right?

Is the air path sealed well?

You can't test run these with the cover off very long or they will overheat because the cover is a critical part of the air flow.

I contacted Amana tech support. They stated to check that the stirrer was revolving and to make sure I had the cover back on the microwave. Once the cover was put back on and the grease shield was in place, the stirrer did revolve and the magnetron no longer overheated.

Microwave runs for about 3 seconds and turns off

most likely the thermistor that shuts off the magnetron tube for overheating is defective,if all else is good and there are no hot odors, its mounted on the vent side of the mag

Panasonic NN-C980B stopped working. Blown fuse.

Sometimes when the mag shorts it takes out the inverter. I would measure the mag leads to ground and they should be open or 20M or so. If you have both a mag and inverter bad it's probably time for a new oven.

Kenmore Ultra Wave Microwave has no power

after removing the cover of microwave chk for continuty of cavity thermostat usually calld TCO(thermal cut off). it is located on top of the cavity and circular in shape.usually neutral wire goes through this 2 control board and this TCO is for protection of cavity from overheating.if this tco is open.then replace it.usually this happens when u cook for 2 long.

Vent Fan Will Not Shut Off

The vent fan TCO is a normally open type. I would say you replaced it with a normally closed type.

Probably the only TCO that was bad would have been the magnetron TCO.

If you still have the old vent TCO, I'd reinstall it.

Otherwise, you can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here:

NOTE: There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

We own a GE Microwave jvm1653sh01

The first thing I would check would be the magnetron TCO (thermal cut-out). This is a little safety devise that protects the magnetron in the event of overheating. These can act up even without overheating. I believe the nuetral side of this TCO runs through the board, and therefore the flickering and shutdown. When the TCO cools, it resets. If it were the door switch, you would blow the fuse and wouldn't be able to set the time without changing the fuse. There are other cavity thermostats that could be the culprit but my quess is on the magnetron TCO. When working with microwaves always unplug the unit and discharge the capacitor. This is high voltage..Good Luck
