How can I view my Del Laptop screen on my 50" Insignia TV?

I used the 15 pin connector from the Dell D610 laptop to the 50 inch TV. I cannot get the image if my laptop screen to show up on the TV. I am told I have to let my laptop know I want to view it on the TV. How do I do this? I went into settings for the monitor, but was told it is NOT a monitor, but a TV.

  • dmcclain Aug 29, 2008

My Dell D610 will not hold the 2nd monitor after I switch it on. It asks if I want to activate the 2nd monitor, I say yes, it turns on, it says to reboot, I do, I go back to the set up monitor area and the second monitor is gray (off) again. I still cannot see my laptop screen on my TV monitor.

  • dmcclain Aug 29, 2008

My laptop does not support those cables, I use a VGA cable.

The way that is setup is basically a dual monitor setup. THe desktop on your TV is actually another monitor. Drag whatever you want on your tv over to the right from your laptop. That should put it on the tv.

    else do tis
That probably depends on your video settings. Try to go into your
display settings and see how the dual monitor is setup. What kind of
video card do you have? Nvidia? ATI? More than likely it is just not
setup properly in your video driver. Also, you can try to update the
driver. Nvidia comes out with a new one about every month.

Turn on the laptop and wait until it boots to the desktop. Connect the S-Video cable to the port on your laptop. Now you have to use Fn+F5 keys to enable TV video output.
Press Fn key and while it’s pressed press on F5 key until the TV output is selected. When you done with TV, set the video output back to LCD using the same Fn+F5 keys.
On some laptops you have to enable TV output in BIOS and connect S-Video cable to the laptop before you turn it on.

Hope that helps.......

Have you tried to press Fn+F5 keys to switch from the TV mode to the LCD mode? Press and hold Fn and press F5 for a few times.
Good Luck.

Press input on your LCD and go to VGA or PC after pressing FN + F5. The LCD should adjust automatically to the laptop settings.

  • Jaime Hernandez Aug 29, 2008

If you are using the 15 pin connector connected to your LCD and laptop, the S-Video cable is not needed.

Hi,

You need to press Fn + F? keys on your laptop. The F? would be proprietary to your specific model/version. Normally that F key would have a small monitor icon and would have a different color (say blue or yellow).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

    Try Fn + F8.

Additionally, you may want to try and lower your laptop's screen resolution and screen refresh rate to match the capability of the Insignia TV.

technical help is much advisable as he will have the require parts available with him.because if some thing connected wrong in the wrong socket.the power supply board capacitor may blow out.and that would be more costly.

it will not be too costly.just under his service charge.

    pls do rate the solution

    thanks.

Press the Windows key + P on your laptop.
Or, if that doesn't work, look on your F keys for something that looks similar to a monitor.
Press the FN key and that key.
This should bring up your laptop's display on the tv.
