I was about 30 sheets into a new toner cartridge. The first pages printed fine. But on the last printed sheet, a few words were grayed on separated lines. It wasn't a blotchy effect, but very neat--in fact at first I thought I'd changed the colors of those words from black to gray by accident.
Nothing has printed since. You know how when you turn the printer on it's silent for a while, then makes a rotating sound as part of its warmup? Well, during the rotating sound part it now makes a loud complaining whine/buzz/wail, then stops doing anything and the red light turns on. Sometimes there are a couple of cracking noises before the wail, like something's coming free and hitting something else inside.
After reading some of the other posts I'm going to try taking as much apart as I can and looking for mini-jams. Any other ideas?

Re: loud whine/buzz/wail, nothing prints
Well your leader (lead head) could be jammed or off of its track. The leader should sit on a steel/aluminum rod and it should run under the front of the cartridge. If its gearings are out of sink you can get the cracking sounds you're describing and the whining probably the motor that powers the leader having no resistance and going way too fast for what it is supposed to do. I'd look for a broken sprocket or gear.

First thing I would do is take the toner cartridge out and shake it left and right a bit. Hit it 'firmly' on the side with your hand, then put it back. Your manual will probably describe the same procedure. That usually loosens up enough toner powder to print another 20 or 30 sheets. How long have you had that particular toner cartridge? Would you have done a lot of printing using that one? Sounds nearly empty to me. As a test, does anything print normally? I mean write some random stuff in notepad like about twenty lines (just hold a key down on the keyboard) and then try to print from notepad. Does that print normally? If so, the problems likely to be with your application on your PC. Obviously you have restarted both the printer and the PC? As a last resort, you might have to download a newer printer driver, but that's another story. Rgds, Dave.

I had this problem when I used a generic toner. I installed a xerox cyan toner, then printed many sheets of a large blue rectangle. After about 15 pages the blue started to spread into the shape, after 30 pages the blue was back. Printing a lot of blue was necessary to get the new toner thru the system.
I have a SCX-4100 Samsung, replaced the tonger cartridge, it was working fine for a few hundred sheets of printing, but after that, the left side of the page was printed very light, faded. If I run the "Clean Drum", it will print a litter better, but still faded. What can I do to correct this problem? Thank you TT
