Can't dial out or receive calls

When we dial a number, it rings, then it beeps about four times and shows a message that says "not available"
What is the problem. These phones are not even 8 months old!

I think you may be right as my mother in law has had the same problem and has the same system. Just really makes me mad when we are supposed to have "quality control" but it evidently is lacking in this century.
    Thanks

Hi,

A couple of things that you can try:

  • unplug unit (if it were a system's glitch, then this should reset it);
  • verify that the telephone line going to the base unit is active and has no issues. This could be done by temporarily connecting a standard phone in the said line and trying to dial out as well as receive calls;
  • contact your phone service provider and inquire if there are any known issues with this specific model with their line/system or anything out of the ordinary with your subscription/telephone line.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Ensure that you do not have to dial a number like 0 to access line.

Unplug phone from power for ten minutes to reset it.

Check the line cables probably phone is not detecting the signal on the line.
Move phone cables and ensure there is no electrical device, like a power adapter near to the cables.
If you have a broadband filter try replacing it, or connecting without filter to test.

I mean The phone cables, the ones that connect to the phone sockets.

Try first unplugging all power cords and waiting ten minutes, then
check connection to phone, ensure that the phon cable is not for
example on top of a power adapter.

    Ginko Aug 29, 2008

Then you check the phone cable connector is wellin place, eventually unplug it and plug back, both on phone and on socket side.
Check also that you have signal on phone line , as suggested by Benimur use a phone that you know is working

How do you change the number of rings before machine turns on?

When the AT&T 1717 digital answering machine is powered off it will answer an incoming call after 10 rings, it will announce "machine is off" then beep twice, dial 0 to turn it on. The machine is now ready to answer calls. This 10 ring setting is factory set and cannot be modified. To set the number of rings to answer for normal operation press <SET UP> button and hold for 2 seconds, machine will announce current ring setting. Press and release <ANNC/SKIP> or <MEMO/REPEAT> until you hear the number of rings you want. Press and release <PLAY/STOP> to exit. The ring settings available are 2, 4, and toll saver. When set to toll saver machine will answer after 4 rings when there are no new messages and after two rings when is anew message. Ok im trying to transfer my work phone to my cell phone so i can go home and not have to sit up here all night. and i cant figure out how to do it.

  1. Pick up the receiver on your work phone and wait to hear a dial tone.
  2. Dial *72 on your work extension phone keypad. You may hear a series of four beeps that indicates the system is ready for you to enter the phone number to which your calls will be forwarded.
  3. Enter your cell phone number including the area code on the keypad of your work extension phone.
  4. Hang up the receiver on your work phone.
  5. Test the call forwarding by dialing your work extension phone from another phone. Your cell phone should ring. If it does not ring , repeat Steps 1 through 4.

How to recover saved messages remotely

Hi,

To retrive the messages remotely please follow the steps...

Dialing In to Your System:-

1.Call your telephone number and wait for the system to answer. (If your answering system is off, it will answer after ten rings and sound a series of beeps instead of your greeting.)

2.During the greeting or beeps, press 0 and immediately enter your security code. If you enter it incorrectly 3 times, the system hangs up and returns to standby.

3.The system announces the current time, the number of messages stored in memory, and a help prompt. It will beep intermittently to let you know it's waiting for your command.

When you hear beeping, enter a 2-digit command from below:-

01Repeat message
02Play message
03Skip message
04Delete message
05Stop playback
06Turn the system on
09Turn the system off
10Hear help prompts

How to access messages remotely

While you are away from your home or
office, you can use a touch-tone phone,
or a pulse (rotary) phone with a pocket
tone dialer (available through your local
RadioShack store) to enter your PIN and
do any of the following:
• set the phone to answer or not
answer calls
• listen to your messages
• record a new outgoing message
• erase messages
• monitor the room where the phone
is located
Notes:
• You cannot remotely operate the
phone using its handset or another
telephone on the same line as the
phone.
• You can also listen to the message
recorded on Line 2 by making a call
to Line 1’s number (or vice versa).
USING THE TOLL-SAVER
If RING TIME is set to TS (toll-saver),
(see “Setting the Number of Rings” on
Page 15), the phone answers after three
rings if you have new messages (ones
you have not listened to). If there are no
new messages, the phone answers after
five rings. This gives you time to hang
up before the phone answers so you
can avoid unnecessary long-distance
charges.
Note: Toll-saver works only on the line
you called. If Line 1 has no new messages,
but Line 2 has one, the telephone
answers after five rings when you
call Line 1.
USING REMOTE
COMMANDS
Follow these steps to operate the phone
from a remote location.
Note: If you wait more than 15 seconds
between keypresses, the phone sounds
a long beep and hangs up.
1. Dial your phone number and wait for
the phone to answer.
2. If the phone is not set to answer
calls, it answers after about 10 rings
and sounds a series of beeps.
3. When the outgoing message begins
(or the phone sounds a series of
beeps), press #, then enter your PIN
within 2 seconds.
If the PIN is correct, the phone announces
the day and time, then it announces
the number of new and old messages.
The phone plays all new messages,
then beeps about every two seconds to
let you know it is ready to accept remote
commands.
Notes:
• If the phone does not respond, try
entering your PIN again. If you enter
an incorrect PIN three times, the
phone beeps and hangs up.
Remote Operation 27
• When the phone is operating from a remote location, it stops all answering functions
and rC appears on the display on the base. The phone resumes answering
functions when it is no longer in remote operation, if you have not turned it off.
• The remote playback of incoming messages is limited to 4 minutes. If you have
more messages after 4 minutes have passed, you must press # 2 again to listen
to the rest of the messages.
• When using remote operation, you can only delete the current message during
playback. You cannot delete all the messages stored at one time.
The following table shows the remote commands you can use.
Note: Remote operation stops when someone picks up the handset and presses either
LINE 1 or LINE 2 (whichever is flashing), or any phone on the same phone line.
Remote Commands
Press #
then (within
2 seconds:
Function
1
Repeat current message during playback.
2 Play messages.
3 Skip current message during playback.
4 Delete current message during playback.
5 Stop playback, recording, and room monitoring.
6 Set the phone to answer or not answer calls.
7 Record or stop recording a new outgoing message.
8 Play the outgoing message.
9 Switch to the other line (Line 1 or Line 2).
0 Monitor the room where the phone is located for 15 seconds

Problem with my hp 640 fax

once you dial the number you fax will automatically start sending the the Fax signal which sounds like short beeps. This is done so the receivers phone (when answered) will recognized the beeps and switch to fax receive mode.  If you are getting the recording that you mentioned above, that means the number you dialed was not successful in making the connection.  Once you dial the number you should hear the phone ringing followed by some churping noises when the other end answers the call... then other churping and gargle like sounds initially as the fax proceeds.
sounds like your are having trouble with the number you are dialing.
Hope this helps..

How do I retrieve messages on the Panasonic KX-T7030 phone?

  • Call into your mailbox (usually by dialing intercom 165)
  • Press 4, and 4 again (for "Incomplete call handling")
By default, three options are enabled:
    option #1: leave a message
    options #5: call the operator
option #6: return to top menu
  • Follow the audible prompts to disable options 5 and 6

Here are some other features you may need

  • Make sure your Auto Answer button is lit up, so you can receive intercom announcements, and respond hands-free.
  • Use the Call Forwarding (FWD) to send un-answered calls to another phone or to voicemail
  • Press BGM (or 1 on the touch-tone pad) for background music, if your system is equipped.
  • Use Absent Messages to show text messages on other people's phones when you are away.
  • Use System Call Waiting so your phone will ring even when you're on the phone. Press Intercom and dial 7311 to set it up, or 7310 to cancel.
  • Use Do Not Disturb (DND) when you don't want to receive calls. Press Intercom, press FWD/DND and dial 1 to activate, or 0 to cancel.
  • Press MESSAGE when you call a busy intercom number. This will turn on the MESSAGE light on the other phone, and the other person can tap that button to automatically call you back.

  • Dial 330 to make an announcement to all phones.
  • If you want your phone to automatically select an outside line when you pick up the handset, press PROGRAM, dial 99, dial 12, press STORE, press PROGRAM

I need to retrieve my home phone messages from cell phone

    Activating Call Forwarding

You can activate Call Forwarding whenever you want your calls to be sent to another phone, including a mobile phone. Once activated, all your calls will be sent to the forwarding number you request. Each time a call is forwarded, you will hear one short reminder tone on your home phone, but you will not be able to answer the call from your home number.

    1. Lift your telephone's receiver and listen for a dial tone.

    2. Press *7 2.
In some areas you must use 72#
Dial 1172 on rotary or pulse-dialing phones.

    3. At the tone, dial the telephone number where you want your calls transferred.
You will hear the number you entered ring. When the number is answered, Call Forwarding is activated.

    4. If the call is not answered or the line is busy, hang up and call the number again within two minutes.
You will hear two short tones telling you that Call Forwarding is activated.

    5. Hang up the receiver.

    Deactivating Call Forwarding

Turn Call Forwarding off when you want to receive calls on your home phone.

    1. Lift your telephone's receiver and listen for a dial tone.

    2. Press * 73.
In some areas you must use 73#
Dial 1173 on rotary or pulse-dialing phones.

    3. Listen for two short tones.
Call Forwarding is now off and you will receive your calls at your home number.
