I'm not quite sure why the cable company would think that your tuner is bad, but yes you can get these. What are teh symptoms that make them think the tuner is bad?

No picture or sound. Is this a tuner problem? any help, please?

A no picture and no sound problem could not be a tuner problem. To test if it is a tuner problem, there must be a sound and picture using the rca input at the back of tv. I would suggest to resolder tuning section not the tuner itself. Thanks for using Fixya.

Most HDTVs have ATSC, QAM and NTSC (analog) tuners. It sounds like yours does not have an NTSC (analog) tuner. QAM tuners only pick up digital cable channels. You may need to switch to your cable company's digital service if your not already on it. Call your cable company for further info

Picture is going off randomly, but still have sound,do i need to change the hdmi cable

before going out and buying another hdmi cable, try using component cables first. this will help you rule out the hdmi cable and the hdmi input tuner. you may also want to get a new box from your cable company to rule that out.

Are 2 tuners needed for HDTV

No, You need 2 tuners for PIP (Picture-in-picture). Perhaps the confusion is that some HD TV's do not include tuners at all. This is fine if you are going to be getting a cable or satellite box for satellite or digital TV. But it's best to cover your bases and make sure the TV has a built-in tuner. 2 tuners are not needed and not all that common.

PICTURE IN PICTURE

If the set has two tuners, you can put two cable feeds on it. You simply use a splitter on the cable feed to have two feeds from the same cable feed.

If you are using a decoder, you will need a separate decoder for each video/audio input to the TV set. The exception would be a dual tuner decoder with independent outputs.

Maybe they mean you need to rescan for channels (and possibly switch the tuner to cable mode).

How can I fix this used TV I bought???

I bought it, the TV was fine, but now the picture tracking is completely messed up. This picture is not clear at all As you have tried externally with dvd 1 it cleraly indicates that there is a loose contact inside near cable socket due to heavy press as you said that it was ok before. 2 loose contact or print break near tuner. 3 tuner defective. good luck.

Poor reception

It sounds like a problem with the tuner in the TV set. Hook up a VCR through the video inputs and hook the cable through the VCR and if the picture is still snowy, the problem is the cable. If the picture is clear, the problem is the tuner in the TV set. If you wanted, you could simply leave the VCR attached to the TV set and change cable channels through the VCR, or have the TV serviced. Good Luck
