Question about Apple M9034LL/A Keyboard

Response to your solution

Thank you for your prompt response, Ekse! I will certainly try your solution but because of a physical disability that requires use of a power wheelchair, I can not do this myself. It may take at least until Monday for one of my caregivers to take the keyboard to another computer. [The first new keyboard has already been returned.] May I take this amount of time to get back to you? Thank you, again - Carole

I want to disable the touchpad and use the external mouse exclusively

Some laptops don't have dedicated buttons but you can use Function keys (like Fn + F5 on Dell computers) to toggle the state of your touch pad. In the case of HP laptops, you can hold the top-left corner of the touchpad for few seconds and it will disable the touch pad - repeat this to re-activate it.

New laptop computers either have a physical on/off button to easily disable the touch pad or there's an icon in the system tray that lets you manage the various settings of the touchpad. If you don't have that icon, you can go to Control Panel -> Mouse Properties -> Touch Pad to enable or disable the touchpad.

The touch pad can also be disabled through the device manager. Type devmgmt.msc in the Windows Run box to start the device manager, expand "Mice and other Pointing devices", right-click and disable the driver entry that says Touch pad or likewise.

Hope this information will help.

Your response is very much appreciated. Thank you for using Fixya...

Why can humans only hear sounds with a frequency of 20,000hz

My understanding is that various hair cells in the cochlea resonate when excited by certain frequencies of sound. So that in a sense, your ear is a complex vocoder of sorts. I don't know all that much about the physiology of sound, but there are many interesting ecological aspects (see works by A. Bregman).

If you've studied differential equations or electrical circuits, then you'll know thatphysical systems have an associated frequency response (they only respond to certain frequencies or frequency ranges). I'm not sure how much is physical response, and how much the brain filters out. If humans could hear to 0 Hz, though, for example, we would be bombarded by useless low frequency noises all around us. From an evolutionary standpoint, 20Hz-20kHz, seems to cover most of the useful noises to survive, communicate, and procreate.

Wireless connection very slow

Lets fix that
How To See Current Auto Tuning Settings
1. Open a
elevated command prompt.

2. Click on Continue in the UAC prompt.

3. In the command prompt, type in bold belowand press Enter. (See screenshot below)
netsh interface tcp show global
image1.gif

4. Close the command prompt when done.

5. Run through the steps below to see if you have a TCP/IP Auto Tuning issue

STEP ONE
How to Restrict Auto Tuning
1. Open a
elevated command prompt.

2. Click on Continue in the UAC prompt.

3. To Restrict Auto Tuning
NOTE: Allows for the receive window to grow beyond the default value of 65,535 bytes, but limits such growth in some scenarios.
A) In command prompt, type in bold below and press Enter. (See screenshot below)
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=restricted
B) You will get a OK response if successful. If not, repeat step 3A.
image2.gif

C) Go to step 5.
4. To Highly Restrict Auto Tuning
NOTE: Allows for the receive window to grow beyond the default value of 65,535 bytes, but doing so very conservatively. In this mode, Vista will by default use a RWIN of 16,384 bytes with a scale factor of 2.
A) In the command prompt, type in bold below and press Enter. (See screenshot below)
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=high
B) You will get a OK response if successful. If not, repeat step 4A.
image3.gif

5. Close the command prompt window and restart the computer to apply the changes.

6. If it fixed your problem stop here. If not, continue to Step Two below.

STEP TWO
How to Disable Auto Tuning
NOTE: Disables the autotunning feature in Vista completely, and sets and locks the RWIN receive window to the default value as 65536 bytes.
1. Open a
elevated command prompt.

2. Click on Continue in the UAC prompt.

3. In the command prompt, type in bold belowand press Enter. (See screenshot below)
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
image4.gifNote
You can also type in bold below and press enter after each command:
netsh
interface
tcp
set heuristics disabled
set global autotuninglevel=disabled
exit

4. You will get a OK response. If not, repeat step 3.
image5.gif

5. Close the command prompt and restart the computer to apply the changes.

6. If it fixed your problem stop here. If not, you may not have a issue with Auto Tuning and will need to turn it back on. Continue to Step 3 below.

STEP THREE
How to Enable Auto Tuning Back to Normal Default
NOTE: This turns Auto Tuning back to the default on (Normal) setting in Vista. Allows for the receive window to grow to accommodate almost all scenarios. See NOTE at the top of the tutorial for more on this.
1. Open a
elevated command prompt.

2. Click on Continue in the UAC prompt.

3. In the command prompt, type in bold below and press Enter. (See screenshot below)
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal
image4.gifNote
You can also type in bold below and press enter after each command:
netsh
interface
tcp
set heuristics enabled
set global autotuninglevel=normal
exit

4. You will get a OK response if successful. If not, repeat step 3.

5. Close the command prompt and restart the computer to apply the changes.

Generally, inverting polarity will not interfere with system impedance. It will, however, affect system response. Drivers with inverted polarity will cancel each other's output at certain frequencies, as well as their physical placement within the cabinet.

Second possibility...many microwaves have a child lock feature. Open the door up and read the labels stuck around the door frame of the cooking cabinet. If yours has this "child lock" feature, it will tell you how to unlock it.

No ethernet response.

Assuming you are talking about the onboard ethernet..... First make sure it is enabled in the system bios, and make sure it is working in the device manager (control panel). If the device manager indicates a problem with your network card, you have to sort this out first.

If this is all fine, open a command prompt in windows and type "Ping 127.0.0.1" and see if you get a response. If you get a response, then your network card is okay, and you may just have a bad network cable, which is quite common. If you don't get a response from this command, then your network card is bad and you need to replace it. If it is onboard, just disable it in bios and install a PCI network card.

If the ping command gives you a response from the card, replace the cable first. Otherwise, it could be a router, if you have one, or the modem.
