Assuming the physical volume control on the receiver still works I would say the remote's volume control is faulty.

Read this procedure to possibly fix the remote:
http://remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=Display&contents=help_deadremote&uuid=A12963989782821
They also sell replacement remotes.

Zoom in on the picture of the original remote provided on the site (or look at your own) and get the actual remote model number.

or check eBay: search for "(model of the device or the remote) remotes", check the 'include description' box. Usually cheaper than the vendors.

Aiwa AV-X200 Stereo Receiver volume knob: When using the remote, the knob isn't spinning correctly any longer (doesn't spin, or spins really slow). Take the unit apart? What should I look for?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved from Washing Machines category.

Check out the video. It may just need cleaning with switch cleaner and a couple of drop of sewing machine oil. The fact it does move is a good sign.

I have an Aiwa cx-nma545 that I just hooked up to a Westinghouse SK-32h640g. The sound is very muffled. The sound is fine if I have it on cd or the radio but when on Aux Video I can barely here it.

On most TV's with speaker control there's a way to disable the TV's volume control effect on the level fed out to an external amplifier. Find it and disable it it or select FIXED for its level, or, while listening through the Aiwa, raise the TV's volume through its own remote and see if that affects what the Aiwa gets for volume.

Or, enable the TV's speakers but find the same interna lAudio setting and make it Fixed, but turn the TV volume down if you don't want to hear its speakers. That way, you could actually listen to the TV on its own speakers if you want, say, for casual watching of the Weather Channel or news, for example.

I need a part # for the volume controle on an Aiwa

The "volume control" on your Aiwa is in fact what is called an "encoder". These can fail. They work in concert with the microprocessor to control the electronic volume control IC. Yes this part can be replaced. Try calling Sony with your model number and request the part number for the volume encoder. They should be able to help.

Rear and Centre speakers not working

The system comes with l remote which provides controls for "Power", "Master Volume", "Bass (Subwoofer) Volume" and "Matrix Mode" . Matrix mode allows you to spread stereo sound to all speakers where your sound card may not have the ability to do so.
I find that the "Stereo Surround" setting works best as opposed to the recommended "CMSS" setting

My Sharp Aquos TV has stopped responding to remote control(s)

Unplugging my TV for 15 seconds (longer actually - at least a minute) made the remote and the satellite TV remote both work again with the TV.  Thanks for the tip!
