Why is there a scraping noise coming from my lawn mower main shaft?

Matt,

RULE 1: First pull the plug wire ANYTIME you are going to reach under a mower deck. No, it might not start but it CAN partially fire and kick the blade into soft flesh of hands or fingers.

Now that I have stated the safety info, let me say that the mowers today have a "quick stop" mechanism on the flywheel and if you manually turn the blade you should hear a friction drag of that braking assembly. If you need to check further. After performing Rule !, you may pull the go/start bar to the run position and then move the blade. You should not hear the dragging noise.

Always obey Rule 1!

Troy-bilt 34322 343220110815 mower will not start

Dump out old gas. Fill with fresh gas. Always use Stabile in gas. Clean or replace park plug and air filter. Check oil level. All mowers have a low oil start cutoff. 30w oil. If any grey in oil moisture contaminated, dump out old oil and refill. Check fuel line for cracks or leaking. Check primer bulb for cracks, replace if required. Clean outside of carb with carb cleaner to ensure easy choke operation. Remove carb bowl from carb, ensure float hangs down freely. float down fuel flow, float up fuel flow stops. Check bowl screw for hole thru bolt, if so clean out hole.

I have a Honda HRR216TDA lawn mower that starts and then stops and wont stay running i have replaced the spark plug and drained the fuel tank and checked all of the lines. Could the problem be a clogged...

More along the lines of a dirty carb. Replacements run about $32 online, sometimes less. If you know what your doing, remove the carb, pull the bowl and spray clean it with carb cleaner. You will see a small plastic screw on the side of the carb holding down a black plastic piece, remove the screw and pull the plug - spray that clean also. Recommend replacing all gaskets when reinstalling the carb.

Troy bilt tuff cut 200. Will not started.. started fine the other day. pulling cord and will not turn over. already tried spraying starter fluid in carb... it is roughly a 2004

The first things you should check if your mower wont start is fuel, air and spark. Try pulling the cord a few times and then pull out the spark plug. If it looks wet then its getting fuel. Plug the spark plug into the wire while its outside the mower and hold it very close to a piece of metal attached to the engine without touching the metal (use insulated pliers). Have someone else pull the cord and see if you have sparks jumping between the plug and the engine. Also remove the air filter and clean it with gasoline if its made out of foam or buy a replacement if its made out of paper.

Let me know if none of these things work.

Are you holding the emergency stop lever? If you were operating the mower with your hands on the handle, there is a separate lever that you are expected to hold together with the main handle. You have to hold these two handles together to start and to operate the mower. Good luck.

spring and metal hook should have a metal cable to it and the handle with handle depressed cable pulls back hook [safety/shut off] which lets mower start

I have a Troy-Bilt 31cc 2-Cycle Gas Powered that doesn't start

Coil bad or wire to coil bad. I tell everyone what Ill tell you, when it comes to small engines, troy bilt, poulan, weedeater brand all JUNK,JUNK JUNK! Theyre made cheap, not built to last, theyre throwaways. Carbs are made in china. If youre ever in walmart next time go back to the garden section and pick up a weedeater or poulan brand chainsaw or trimmer. Look at the package good and look at the factory life expactancy. Its not in months, not even days, but in hours. If I was you I would tell myself NO MORE! I would buy a dolmar or stihl, pay the extray, cause you wont be aggrevated in the long run. P.S. Dolmar offers a 100% coverage for ONE YEAR on all equipement.
