Question about Microwave Ovens

My OTC microwave shuts down after heating food/liquid after a period of time. Unit turns back on after a time cooling. I know the internal Magnatron fan is not working/running, so I belive the Magnatron may be overheating - not sure.

If it is the fan, should I consider having a technician repair the unit, or should I just by a new unit (past warrenty)?
Should I attempt to replace the mag. fan myself?
I have the same problem, but only with popcorn. Is it the fan or mag.?

I am experiencing the same problem with this unit. I am also wondering if it should be serviced, or replaced with another model for about $159. It seems we've bought a lemon in this brand.

Mty Magic Chef microwave was shuutting down after less than a minute due to overheating. The underside light also was nt functioning. The internal cooling fan was not operating which led to the magnetron overheating. I tested the cooling fan which tested good. After tracing the wires and connections I removed the circuit board/keypad which is held on by a single screw on the front of the oven. I removed each of the various plugs and connectors so I was left with just the circuit board and control panel. Remove the 4 screws that attach the circuit boad to the control panel andthe two parts easily separate. On the rear of the circuit board were obvious burn marks and there were two circuit board traces damaged. I then used my trusty soldering iron and soldered a small piece of wire where the damaged traces were. Apparently pressing on the front control panel too hard can bend the plate which then contacts the circuit board causing a short. I placed a piece of cardboard behind the circuit board when I reassembled it to prevent further shorting.

You absolutely need the magnetron cooling fan to be working, or the magnetron will be destroyed!

It is part # 3511800100 and you can order it for less than $20 here.

Far less than a magnetron.

If the microwave is not heating check magnetron connections, probably you will need to replace the magnetron.

I have a Magic Chef microwave MCO160UB. I was cooking on the stove (microwave wasn't on) and the fan came on as it has done before. After a few minutes, it shut off and is now completely dead. I...

If the microwave is above the stove, the heat sensors in the microwave
may turn on fans to cool it even though the microwave itself is not
running. It tries to save its life. It should turn off when the stove is not
heating it.

I have a Magic Chef Microwave model # MC0160UB serial # DJ07201331 It acts like it's working but does not heat food/liquids. It's not very old.

There are three possibilities, the first is a bad magnetron that heats the food,"common problem" next the high voltage capacitor and diode do fail on occasion, the cost to repair may equal the amount of a new one.

Magic Chef MCO 153 UQ heats but doesnt' turn

You can still use it, but must be aware that this is a relatively high power microwave, so food will burn if it isn't turned.

Why don't you return it? I think this is a common problem. We returned ours to Home Depot with no questions asked.

The cooling fan is a must!

Otherwise, the magnetron will be ruined, and that drives up the repair cost.

If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Microwave not heating up

Magnatron is suspect. Need to put a voltmeter on the input (primary) side to the high-voltage transformer (big heavy iron thing in there) Should be getting 120Vac when it goes to cook cycle. Don't touch the other (high voltage) side of this transformer. If the power is there, you are looking at replacing either the magnatron or the high-voltage capacitor and diode. Its affordable if you do it yourself - buy the part on EBAY - lookup "universal magnatron"

Microwave stopped working completely

Fan turned on after cooking because a thermostat got to hot and tripped turning on the fan to try to cool the unit.  The unit went completely dead when thermal fuse tripped which is located above the cavity on the left side.

The problem is related to a thermal cutoff shutting down the unit due to the something (turntable motor?) overheating due to poor ventilation. You need to open the unit and ensure that all aeration opening are free of dust and grease. Compressed air works great for cleaning the internal components.
