Elongated picture on Sylvania 27" Model # SRT2232S
The picture appears to have stretched vertically and folded over on itself at the top of the screen. Seems like a simple vertical adjustment would fix the problem, but neither the remote nor the tv itself has this feature. Can it be fixed that way, or is the tube shot?

The problem is in the vertical deflection circuits which is responsible for giving a full picture. Since the set is 8 years old the money would be better spent on a new tv since more frequent break downs in other parts of the set would be more likely due to age.
Had same problem Sylvania SRT2232s 32"had to keep powering on and off until it warmed up enough to finally stay on. Problem was the 100/50 & 1/50 filter cap took it to local repair total cost to fix was 74.52 works better than ever
For how many years this TV with you? Most tv now a days after few years of using vertical IC solder started to dry(dry solder) you can try to re-solder or you may check also two capacitors (100uF/35V) for most JVC model has this symptom with this parts changes its electrical characteristics. If still problem persist replace vertical IC. Hope his helps, Good Luck
Is the picture stretched or shrinking and is it distorted or have lines? There are no vertical Height adjustment the circuit is prest and there is likely a problem in the vertical o/p circuit. The problem is a bad Vertical Output IC (usually mounted on an aluminum heat sink with the part on it labeled LA78?? ) and 1 or 2 bad capacitors. Some times you can even fix the problem by re-soldering the contacts of the IC- To find the IC follow the 4 wires that come from the Yoke (which is a contained coil of wires slipped over the neck of the picture tube(s)) back to the board. 2 of the wires go to the horizontal o/p and 2 to the Vertical o/p the thinner gauge wires are for the vertical.
There are bad solder connections on the vertical IC. This is a small flat IC attached to a heat sink. It should have about 9-11 pins and may be marked LA7837 or something similar. Resolder the pins on this IC and that should resolve the problem.
You probably have a leaky or open electrolytic capacitor in the vertical circuit. This will require troubleshooting by a repair specialist, unless you can obtain a diagram and do a little spy work with an oscilloscope
Hi, maybe just maybe something screwed in the yoke. Other than the vertical deflection coil, you may want to try to check the associated components. Sometimes they have diodes connected as a limiter/shunt. Again maybe...
Pls post back, curious too.
