Re: I bought the Acer TM2451WLCI

Can you tell me exactly what freeware programs you're talking about? I also read some where about formatting the hard drive. Are you familiar with that?

Formatting is possible. i'll need to read your original issues as this particular message does not show them. you must realize if you go the format route you lose all data on the drive. do you have a way to back up all the pics and music etc before you do that ?

And does that acer have a floppy drive ?

Spybot S&D ... adaware... auslogic defrag and auslogics registry defrag are good starts. many of the store bought computers do come with programs that slow your computer down.

another freeware program i recommend is called decrapifier (really that's the name). when you buy a computer from a store be it acer hp or compaq etc i recommend this program be run first thing.

there are other methods to speed up your computer but i'll leave you to run these first.

almost forgot... one other program to get is call ccleaner the c used to stand for **** but well you know.

Format acer n214

Format? Format is for a hard drive, so what is it that you want to do? Are you trying to Format your hard drive so nothing is on it. Formatting a drive wipes out everything, the drive is completely empty until you put something on it.

Maybe you are talking about doing a System Restore which will set you computer back to a particular date and time before you started having problems. System Restore does not delete your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs (unless the program was install after the restore point date and time you selected). To get to System Restore Click Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore and select a restore point (date and time before you started having problems).

Maybe you are talking about System Recovery. System Recovery sets your system back to when you first purchased it from the store. It deletes everything. All your data, documents, music, pictures, videos and any program you installed after you purchased it will be gone. Normally to get to System Recovery you will have to hit one of the F1 thru F12 keys repeatedly when you press the power button. Your manual will tell you the exact key to hit. Sometimes the Recovery will be listed on the program list. Click Start/Programs/ and look for System Recovery, it might be inside of one of the Acer Folders in the program list. Hopefully there is a Recovery Partition on your hard drive called Recovery. Click Start/My Computer and look to see if you see a Recovery drive listed. Sometimes the drive is hidden so you can't see it. If the drive is not present you will need a set of Recovery Disks you created or the manufacturer gave you.

Maybe you are talking about Reinstalling Windows. If you do a Clean or Complete Install it will format the drive and delete everything before installing windows. There are ways to do a Repair Install that will save all your data, documents, music, pictures, videos and programs. You will need an Operating System Disk to perform a windows installation. It has to be the exact operating system as that which is on your Certificate of Authentication (COA) sticker on the computer somewhere. If it says Windows XP Professional you cannot use a Windows XP Home disk to do the install and vice versa.

I accidentally reformat my removable hard disk, i need help on how to recover all lost data.

All your files are still stored on the removable hard drive. They're just invisible or inaccessible. You can recover them with data recovery software.

I used this one to recover files from my formatted external hard drive and it worked. Anyway, you can download it and scan your removeable hard drive for free to preview whether you can recover your data.
Hope this help!

When i turn on my laptop a warning notice comes on screen immediately saying smart failure predicted on hard disc 0:ST9160310AS-(PM). Warning immediately back up your data and replace your hard disc drive....

It means exactly what the message says.
The hard drive is going to fail in the near future. I recommend you back up your data before the hard drive fails completely.
When the hard drive fails, replace the hard drive, and use your Compaq recovery disk to install Windows and the device drivers plus your programs to get the laptop working again.

My Dell desktop computer is so very slow. why is that?

Systems collect junk (technical term) over time. You should try to do the following things to clean up.

  1. remove unnecessary files
  • clean your trash can
  • remove any programs that you don't use
  • clean your Internet files (can be done with browser or a program like ccleaner.
2. defragment the system
  • You can use the built-in defragment program located under start -> accessories -> system -> defragment
  • You can use a freeware program such as mydefrag or ccleaner (look on Google)
3. clean your registry
  • Programs such as ccleaner have an option to clean the registry. Using this several times in a row will help.
If that does not get enough speed, you might want to look at adding memory. You can go to a number of different sites which will tell you what memory you can add. Crucial (which advertises here), newegg.com and others can read your machine and give you the exact information you need. You can compare prices at different vendors after the scan.

I bought the Acer TM2451WLCI Laptop computer about a year ago. Right out of the box it was very slow and it hasn't gotten any faster. Is there anything I can do myself to make it perform faster?

there are several freeware programs that would help. a couple things you can do are to run defrag on the drive...
also go to start.... my computer ... then right click and select properties..... when that window opens click on disk clean up.

make sure all the boxes are marked then click ok and yes to confirm.
