Question about Washing Machines

Everything comes out covered in LINT

I have an "older" Inglis washer, but not too old and it doesn't matter what I put into have washed everything and I mean everything comes out covered in LINT...I'm not talking about small pieces here and there I'm talking about the entire wash covered...I have checked all the pockets and things of stuff to be washed just to be sure there is no kleenex or things that would create the mess and there is nothing to be found until the wash is over and I start to remove the items..I have checked the drum for any sneaky things that could cause such a problem and again nothing..I will gladly accept any suggestions no matter how out there they may seem I just can't afford to replace this thing just yet...Any and all help greatly apprecieated.
many thanks in advance,
Debbie in Canada

    Hello again,

Well I've tried what you said and they cycles run just fine. The water going into the wash is clear...Just some other back ground info I live in the city and thus have all my water go through them...It is clorinated, but free of other contaminates that I am aware of...Ohh just one other thing...When the fake wash was completed I could still hear water swooshing around under the unit although I could not see any....Is it possible that this left over water is now going into my next wash???? If this is the case what is this problem and how can I fix it??

Again thank you so much for your time.

Had it up to here with washing clothes.

    Hey rickzilla,

Sorry about the delay not only was the washer on the fritz so was the computer...Thanks so much for the suggestions they were great and my husband actually took a look at the suggestions simply because they were posted by a man and you must know what you are talking about.....Anyways we did follow all of your suggestions and followed all the lines down and out...He didn't even know that there was such a thing as a lint trap...He has snaked all of the incoming and outgoing lines thinking that maybe they could be blocked...This is an OLDER home and god only knows when anything was done to the pipes...We had thought that maybe since we are washing more in colder water "keeping green" that the soap was not rincing all the way out of the clothes and yes the pipes/hoses as they should and believe it or not the snaking has worked...I no longer go to work looking like a kleenex has exploded all over my clothes....Thanks for all of the tips and suggestions EH....sending you a very chilled Timmies coffee.

Just for kicks, have you tried to run a wash load without any clothes in the tub and then examine the water at various times during the wash cycle for any lint or other debris? Based on your description of the problem.. are you sure your incoming water is free of contamination? The intent is to try to identify at what point the water is getting this foreign matter in it that ends up covering your clothes... Please try this and let me know what you find.. Hope this helps ...

OK so we've established that without clothes in the wash.. the water looks clear thoughout all cycles.. The next step from my perspective would be to do a controlled cycle with one or two garments.. and see if you still get the contamination on them..

As far as water cycling beneath your washer after a completed wash.. that does not make sense to me.. Please look at the way your drain hose is set up in back and into the drain pipe.. The pump should move most ( maybe not all) drain water out thru that line and you should not be reciruclating waste water.. ( that may be a clue) The drain line should be coming out of the washer in back and near the bottom and then brought up to the input of your house drain system.. The intent is to push water up this line and into your house drain and to have an air gap at the top so you should not have any back streaming waste water.. Try the smal wash cycle first and let me know the outcome.. In the meantime.. verify that the drain line is routed up high in back and looped down into a waiting house drain stub.. I'll check back later to see how you made out,. I suppose I shoud say "EH" here.. ( feeble attempt at canadian humor.. sorry) besides I LOVE TIM HORTONs coffee... LOL

Top load washer Inglis mod.im45000,ser.cp4304291 smelly, cleaned lint trap, inside of tub,put baking soda in,

Spray a stream of bleach-type cleaning solution (Clorox Clean-up, or bleach and water mix) between the inner and outer tub at the top rim. Run a soak cycle with water and bleach (full load water level setting). I haven't looked at the manual for your washer, so if it doesn't have a soak cycle, start a normal cycle, stop it after a minute of agitation, then let the washer sit for at least an hour before starting it again.

Sometimes the particle traps at the water inlets get a bacterial film growing on them. Turn off the water to the machine, remove the hoses and clean off the trap screens. If there is a film, put the hoses in a bucket and turn the water on to flush them out. This will help prevent the return of the odor.

My inglis front loader washer is leaking at bottom of the door....inside rubber area near leak feels gummy....any advice??

Scrub the glass on your door and the rubber boot. This works in almost every case. The washer gets a build up of scum on these parts and doesn,t allow a tight seal. In rare instances you have to replace the rubber boot. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists.

Hello. I think this is the looks

Well Bridie no there is no lint filter inside your washer the only possible explanation, is either old lint and particles are coming from previous washes. or you have just washed something recently that may have come apart such as a pillow, a mat with a rubber backing, or even a blanket with any sort of fiber material in it. It is more than likely that much of the lint that goes through your machine is unseen and can cause pump issues. hope this helps.
