Remove the tiny SD card from the camera. Slide the tiny switch on the side of the card to its other "unlocked" position. Reinsert the card in the camera.

Hi I have a Canon 500D and the camera, not the sd card, is is on card lock and I do not know how to remove it. I have looked in menu and gone to 'protect Images' and it says "Card write protected'. ...

Hi Carolyn. There could be several reasons for locked card. 1. pin on side of the SD card must be in UP position, not DOWN2. Reformat your card via computer to FAT323. Card reader inside camera has one "little piece" inside for monitoring if the pin on SD card is pulled down or not. If this "little piece" is bent or broken, your camera could mean that SD card is locked. In this case easiest way is to return camera back to shop. Or if you like, disassembly camera, but you will lost your warranty.

My camera says CARD LOCKED. I cannot use it and have looked through the manual for help, but could find nothing.

Remove the memory card from the camera, look along the one edge for a tiny switch, slide it towards the contacts to unlock the card. The switch that is furthest from the contacts is in the lock position to avoid erasing the pictures, now! if the card is already in the unlock position slide it back and forth to reset, if that fails! the card should be replaced.

EVERYTIME I put a sd card in it says it is full? I cant find my manual and have no idea if I have the menu on the right settings? Can you help me asap... Thank you.

I don't know exactly what the problem is, but it could be related to the card. Does it have a little switch to lock the card? The camera might be telling you it can't write to the card because it's locked.
If that doesn't fix it, here's a link to the camera's manual. Formatting the card should clear all the photos.

Check the tiny switch on the memory card to see if it is locked, unlock it. Otherwise, you need to goto menu in playback mode to unprotect the pictures.

My nikon coolpix s50 camera says...memory card is write protected and click pictures.. Need a solution for this ASAP!! Thanks Shweta

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

I have a Nikon Coolpix s600 and when I turn it on it says: "the card cannot be used". I can't see any pictures and I can't take any either. What is the problem and how do I solve it? /Sara

first take the card out and see if on the side of it ..the button is not on the locked position ..it has to be on the open side of that sign ...
after that inser *** again with care ..open the camera ..and goto the main menu ..than look for storage ..and in there select the card ..and on its options select format card..For some cameras this option is not in storage area but it is a separate feature in the menu ..so pay attention for something called format ..and when you open choose memory card ..After you format it ..it will work ..

Canon A620 LCD shows "memory card locked" for each card I insert

This worked for me!  I have the Canon Powershot SD780 IS and although my card WAS NOT locked, the camera "malfunctioned" and the switch in the camera needed to be gently pushed back IN, not DOWN on my specific camera type.  This is great, I was just going to go out and buy another camera today!  Thanks for the post Stephan!

Tried to unlock Lexar SD 2GB and Lexar SDHC 4 GB - No luck

First of all, the 4GB card will never be able to work in your camera. Check on its face. It likely says SDHC, and SDHC cards as this format came out after your camera was designed (I know it looks exactly like a normal SD card, but it's not).

Now the 2GB card should work with your camera as it is a standard SD card. Remove the card from your camera. Look on the side of the card for the tiny slide switch, and slide it to the other "unlocked" position. Reinsert it in the camera, and see if that corrects the problem.

Digital camera says sim card locked

If this is an SD card you may need to take out the card and slide the small switch on the card itself to the "Unlock Position"

Good Luck!
