Your explanation does not seem feasible.. Without any problem I have been using Epson Compatible cartridges for about one year, in the same printer (Epson Stylus SX215). Why should exactly the same type...

Maybe there are corrupted file in the installed software from your driver so your PC can't recognize the cartridge. Try to re-install printer driver with the cartridge placed inside the printer.

Have lost the setup disc for my epsom stylus SX215 can I set up the printer on line

Hi Switch on the printer give a print job and open the panel the head comes to the centre and then you can remove.

Yes, you can. Get the printer driver online. Go to this website http://www.epson.co.uk/Printers-and-All-In-Ones/Inkjet/Epson-Stylus-SX215/Drivers-Support.

Select "Drivers and Software" and download the driver.
