It appears that the element may have "gone" in my Phillips electric kettle model no HD4660.
Is it worth trying to replace it or is it best to buy a new kettle

Have you tried descaling the kettle? When scale builds up over the whisper quiet element, it reduces the effectiveness, and the kettle becomes noisy. Try 1 tablespoon of citric acid, fill the kettle to the max line, boil the kettle then leave for 10 minutes. Rinse and repeat if necessary.
Very simply, it sounds like the element has blown. If the element is built into the base of the kettle I am afraid it is terminal, if it is a calrod type element that you can see in the kettle, it can be replaced.
the chemical taste of smell from your kettle means that the element in the kettle which provide heat to boiled the water has gone bad due to over heating
this occur when there is shortage of water level in the kettle when the power supply is on
to fix up this problem of smell and chemical taste in your boiled water you will have to make a change of the element (heater)because it has gone bad you can get a replacement of it in the store .
sounds like there's water in the element. Empty it out and let it dry out completely for a few days, and then try it again.
If the element is a concealed element (ie- you can't see the coils when you open the lid up) then there's probably a water leak into the sealed compartment.
Contact the manufacturer for a recommended repairer.
1. Check the continuity on the power switch 2. Check to see if any thermal cut-out is open circuit 3. Check to see if the element has gone open circuit.
Any open circuit indicates the part will require replacing. Given the cost of the kettle, if the element has gone open circuit it may be worth considering replacing the kettle itself.
the element is avilb on the web / look under small appliances / or better yet use your model # and google it . the cost of element and shipping may be more than your pot is worth . you be the judge . i would fix it but / it may not be cost efective .. hope this hepls **** ..
Yes I think they do but these may also be unavailable. You could try sourcing 'after market' replacement elements, these are universal fit elements often from the original suppliers and cheaper too. Try searching the web for Russell Hobbs replacement kettle elements.
