Question about Acer AL1715 17" LCD Monitor

2 Answers

The monitor turns off and on repeatedly.

It comes on and shows the picture but then turns off and comes back on and shows the picture and turns off again repeatedly. It seems to keep doing this forever. It is getting power and is connected to the computer or it wouldn't show the picture. Hi all! I have a Acer LCD AL1715 Monitor and it is repeatly flashing on and off and making a clicking sound. I can see the Acer splash screen when it turns on for that second. It wont even power off it just keep flashing on and off. I had to unplug the power cable to get it to stop. Is there hope or is my monitor going to end up in the place where electronics retire? Thanks in advance

I have a dualview system in my computer. I was using an app. for MSDos (Dosbox) and I took this app. from my main monitor to my secondary monitor, which is the AL1715. Then it started with all the clicking stuff and it apears to be trying to switch on over and over again without any positive result.

It looked like it was a resolution problem but I tried everything (changing resolutions, refreshing time...).

Do you think something broke down?

I have been repairing LCD monitors for several years now. i work as a technician in a steel plant and we have hundreds of these in service. What i am finding is that it doesn't Matter what brand it is or what model. If the Screen is flashing on/off/on/off/on/off most likely 98% of my repairs anyway are Capacitors on the powersupply board. when you get it open look to see if any of the Caps have the tops or sides bulging this makes it easy. If you dont see them bulging out then what you need to look for are pairs of caps close together & almost always near the mosfets/transistors mounted on a heatsink find the pair with the lowest microfarad rating and replace those first if possible replace with a higher voltage rating as i am finding most manufactures are using to close a tolerance and this is whats causing the issue in the first place.

I hope this helps.

Happy repairing

Does sound like a power supply issue... they are fixable but it's somewhat involved.

Screen goes blank when first turned on, have to keep restarting m

If you turn the monitor off then about 1020 sec turn it back on and have a picture for five sec again it sound like the power supply in the monitor. but if that did not solve the problem, the picture board on your monitor is bad, since it goes off after few seconds and the power led or button is on, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault and will need to be replace.

I advice you replace the picture board on the screen of your monitor to solve the problem of the blank screen.

Take care.

My VX922 will come on (for a few seconds) and the green power light starts blinking ? long-on, short-off. Turning monitor off & back on only repeats the above.

You need to open it up and inspect the inside for bad caps, burnt parts, etc, Post back what you see so we can guide you further, pictures will help a lot, see example of failed monitors here;

I turn it on and it comes on for a second then the goes black

You need to open it up and inspect the capacitors (look for bulging top/seal), burnt inverter transformers, resistors, etc. in the power supply/Inverter board first, post back what you find so we can guide you further. See example of failed Viewsonic monitors:

Probably the monitor. LCD monitors use electrolytic capactors which change value with heat. The power board in yours probably has 6 to 8 caps whic need replacement. Take it to a reputable repair person or check out my websit.

your monitor is beleiving it is not receiving any signal from your pc. 1 make sure your cables are secure. 2 make sure your pc is on. 3 borrow a monitor from a freind to see if your pc is sending the signal out, if the borrowewed monitor is showing a picture, hook yours back up. 4 if still not picture your mpcb or video pcb in the monitor is bad.

The monitor turns off and on repeatedly.

There is a loose connector on the cable or the cable attachment on the PC board. Jiggle the connector as its connected and see if this causes the LCD to fire up.

Next time don't be overconfident and do things that you are not sure of. It doesn't hurt to ask someone who knows. Here you are lucky to escape with this one. I've come across cases where people have ended up short-circuiting their gadgets beyond repair.

If you have the previlege of having a manual, refer it, read every word carefully and then go about doing things on your own.

The monitor turns off and on repeatedly.

Linux and UNIX wget command help --dns-cache=off, Turn off caching of DNS lookups. Normally, Wget remembers the addresses it looked up from DNS so it doesn't have to repeatedly.
