No operating system and when it turns on it says the boot manager is missing

If you have your settings in the bios to boot from your optical drive you should be able to insert your windows 7 disc and choose to boot from it then just follow instructions.

You need a Windows DVD -- Same version as you have -- Vista / Win 7, 32-bit / 64-bit.

A local PC repair should be able to burn you a copy for a small fee.

Bypass "step 1" and follow the instructions for "step 2".

I had to get a new screen because my LED shattered. The person who replaced the screen missed connecting/wiring that green lit up strip that turns on/off Wi Fi, controls volume, etc. Its for a HP EliteBook...

Unfortunately, the only way to solve your problem is to take the laptop back apart and re-connect the wires, and _hope_ that the reason why they didn't get re-connected in the first place wasn't because they were broken when it was disassembled.

Laptop repair is not difficult as long as you _carefully_ follow all the instructions, be very careful how you disconnect the cables, and, probably the hardest part is keeping track of the screws. One way to keep track of the screws is to use an egg carton and write on the carton where the screws came from.

Take pictures before disassembly if you have too.

Here's the HP webpage that tells you in detail how to disassemble and re-assemble your laptop:

My hp pavillion tx1320us is powering up but the screen remains black

try to turn off the laptop. Remove the cables and battery on the pc. Press and hold the power button for 8 secs. Then reinsert the cables and battery on the pc. Turn on the laptop and check if the screen still black. If it is, make sure that the monitor power light is on. Otherwise, there might be a problem on the video card. If you know how to reseat a video card, go for it and here is the step by step, instructions:

Turn off the laptop, remove the cables and battery, remove the screws at the bottom part 4 corner sides, remove the hard drive, remove the optical drive, then remove the video card and reinsert it. Then reinsert the other peripherals in descending order.

If still did not work, call HP and have your video card replaced...

I have a hp pavillion laptop with the philips dvd-ram sdvd8821

Just try to reinstall the DVD driver software through the Add Hardware wizard at the control panel. From the Start menu, left click the Control Panel, and the Add Hardware. Right to left click to open. Just follow the instructions and let your PC do the rest. If you have an internet, connect your PC without opening any window. Your PC will autoconnect and search the internet for the proper software driver. Wait for
a few minutes, until it is installed. Hope this Help.

HP Pavillion laptop won't backup to optical drive...CD/DVD-RW; I do have 1 Click Copy (&Pro) installed as well as DVD43. I have tried to uninstall the DVD43 & 1 Click but it doesn't change...

HP Pavillion laptops and every others laptops do require CD/DVD recordable for backup not CD/DVD rewritable. Try to use a CD/DVD recordable to see what will happen first.

Cd-rom won't run

you will have to open the pc and check the cables running to the drive. If you are confident enough to do that, I would suggest to remove the cable and push it back again firmly.

HP Pavilion dv4000 laptop optical drive failure

Hello, Ironic but I was having the same problem...even though it seems unmovable it does move slowly to the left. Use both hand and take finger pushing on the two long edges towards the left. Once the silver tab on the left side, which is part of the hard drive harness, reaches the edge you should be able to lift it out. Hope this helps.

Hp pavillion dv6835nr dvd player

Try this, put a DVD movie in the drive, then open windows explorer (Right click the start button, click explore) then see if you can read the DVD files on the DVD.

If you cannot browse the DVD then the DVD optics of the drive have failed and you will need to replace the drive.
