I had the same problem, but found the lid switch had broken loose from the mounting screws. I need to find out what the correct lid switch replacement part is and order it.

These are typical symptoms of a broken motor coupling. Believe it or not, this is a common problem and very inexpensive to repair (about $15 or less). If you wish to tackle this job on your own, the following link gives you step-by-step instructions:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385250-replacing_motor_coupling_kenmore_top

The link also gives you the part number and which website you can order it from. If you do not wish to order on line, use the part number provided and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. This is a common part that most retailers carry. I would recommend a Sears parts store or Whirlpool (your washer is manufactured by Whirlpool). Let me know if you require additional assistance. I hope this helps you.

Kenmore Series 90 top load washer goes through wash cycle, however then stops. It does not drain and will not complete cycles. Any help would be appreciated.

My washer did the same thing and it was the safety switch that determines if the washer lid is closed or not. If you replace the safety switch it will spin and drain again. :)
