Acer aspire 4920 charging mechanism failed

I have an acer aspire 4920g and charging mechanism does not charge my battery so therefore i can not use it running on batery i wish to know how i can fix the problem and how much would it cost me to see whether i should buy a new laptop. first i thought its was a battery problem so i bought brand new battery but it does not charging the new battery and then i realise that the charging mechanism of my laptop failed coz the charging light do not turn on when i plug in the adaptor . thanking you for answer my posted problem. i also replace a brand new charger and currently running my laptop with it but its still doesnt charge my battery. my conclusion is that charging mechanism in the main board is gone and if u know a way to fix that part without replacing a main board or the name for that part so i can buy it and fix it myself. my next move would be open it up and testing the power supply do have a fault and can i just replace the power supply instead of the main board?

Most laptops, as in 99%, have one board and everything is on it. They don't really have a power supply since the AC adpater provides DC voltage already. There is just a voltage divider that take the incomming voltage and changes it to the various voltages the machine needs. The charging mechanism is also on the mainboard. I've very seldom seen a seperate power or charging board in a laptop. Unfortunately since you've already replaced the battery and the ac adapter and since the adapter is powering the laptop then there is definitely a problem with the charging circuitry on the mainboard. This isn't something one can repair unless you start changing micro components and ICs on the board which isn't recommended. Looks like a new mainboard or a new laptop is in your future if you want it to run off battery.

Another option is to get an external battery that mimics your ac adapter but that wouldn't give you a very long run time compared to the internal battery.

Don't forget to rate my solution in your premium thread as FixYa if you think I helped solve your problem. Thanks.

Acer aspire 4743 not charging but all Okay.....

The solution to your problem lies in one of the following three areas:

1.) Your acer aspire 4743 charger is faulty and is therefore not able to pass power to your laptops battery.

2.) The charging connector on the laptop has come loose from the contacts. Therefore a bad connection.

3.) Your battery is faulty.

I think possibility 2 is the most likely, although you will have to test possibility 3 by removing the battery and plugging in your charger and seeing if the laptop powers on.If it does power on then that rules out possibility 1 and 2 leaving a faulty battery.

My acer aspire 7520-5185 will not turn on

Hello. There is a hardware failure with the laptop not the AC charger. AC chargers have some range of protections of their own. If the power requirements of the laptop are bigger then what the charger can handle, the charger will turn off. Also other parameters can bring the charger offline. In your case, you have a problem with a small chip, the battery charge controller unit, witch regulates the amount of current required to propperly charge the battery. When this thing fails, the charging requirements for the battery are reported rong and the AC charger is forced to give more power then necesary. This results in disconnection of the AC charger ( an internal fail safe of the
AC charger) and the laptop to swich back to battery power. When the laptop is turned off, it can charge the battery because the power requirements are low, having all processor, main board, hard disk etc turned off. Therefore the AC charger can handle the load. However you will need to have it checked by a service center as it is a hardware fault. Both AC charger and laptop needs that check.
The charge controll circuit needs to be replaced probably. It will be a somewhat expensive repair. Don't buy any other battery untill you have the laptop checked.

Battery fully charged but still shutting down when disconnected from mains

Find another battery it says like the one you have is faulty. If you try another known good battery and that fails just like yours then try a know good ac adaptor. If that fails, then its a problem with the motherboard not charging batteries properly but it really does sound like a faulty battery from my experience.

The battery of my 4920 dry so fast,i have to charge it every 30 minutes and the warning sign for charging dissapear

Your battery is going bad, the cells inside of the battery itself is not holding the charge that is should. Get another battery and then make sure the ac adaptor is not plugged into the laptop when your not using the laptop, this will make sure the battery isn't always charging for long periods of time when it doesn't need to.

Laptop won't charge while it is turned on

Have a look under your control panel for power options.
I'm using Vista but should basically be the same. Click on "Change when CPU sleeps"
Go into advanced power settings. Will prob give you option with your power plan. Mine
on high performance but you can change the others if you want.. Look under battery options
and see if you maybe have you battery option maybe turned off?? I've got a Acer Aspire 4920G
so it should be around the same operation. Let me know what come of it.

Acer aspire 4920g charging mechanism failed

Have you tested the adapter to see if there is any power getting to your notebook period. Use a multimeter to check for DV voltage. If you can't get your multimeter probe into the middle of the plug then I use a paper click to get in there. If your adapter is not supplying any voltage then there is a problem with it. I get a replacement adapter for my wife's Acer on eBay for about $30. Just search eBay for 4920g and you should get quite a few hits for the ac adapter or power cord.

If the adapter is providing power then the motherboard in your notebook is faulty since you've already replaced the battery. A replacement motherboard might be available from eBay. Replacing the motherboard could be complicated depending on your experience so I would leave that up to a notebook technician. An Acer certified shop may also be able to sell you a replacement motherboard.

I don't think it's the motherboard, my money is on the adapter. Test it out or have it tested.

Problem with Acer Aspire 4920 notebook

all laptops are supplied with a pre installed copy of windows and the product key will be on a genuine windows sticker on the back, unless you have no sticker, in which case you will need to purchase a copy, as nobody is likely to be able to help if you have no product key and no Vista disc
