Question about GE Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

I've had a GE JGSP28 stove for about a year with no problems. Today I came home after my cleaning service had cleaned the house and found that the burners were making the clicking noise every few seconds like they were trying to ignite, even though all the knobs are set to the off position. Any suggestions?

Water or cleaning solution may have gotten into a switch, or a switch may have gotten broken and is not lined up correctly anymore. There is a switch behind each of the burner knobs.

I have a 30 year old GE electric 2oven range One is up where you would think a microwave would be today. need to replace the element on the lower self cleaning oven. Where can I buy an element?

most electrical wholesale shops carry elements for stoves
the ranges may change but the elements stay fairly constant
if it is possible take the old element with you for comparison

Our new home has a GE XL44 gas stove the top works fine but when I use the oven it smokes and sets off the smoke alarms. The stove is over 3 years old Any ideas before I have to call the repairman in?

A gas stove shouldn't smoke. Is is clean? There is some grease that has eluded your cleaning efforts of interior surface?

Here are some tips that may help you resolve this problem:

Check the broiler flame. If the broiler flame is not adjusted properly, you could be creating soot from the burner flame.

Position the items that your are broiling lower so that they do not splatter grease up onto the broiler baffle.

Use a broiler pan that will drain grease and drippings down below the top surface.

Broiling many items will naturally produce some smoke. If you have the oven door closed when broiling then the only place that the smoke can go is up and out of the oven vent. If you partially open the oven door, some of the smoke will come out of the door opening.

You may have residue on the top walls of the inner oven cavity. Do you have self-clean feature on your range to clean the oven? Follow all of the procedures in your owner's manual to properly clean the oven using the self-clean cycle. This may clear out any undetected residue that could be causing excessive smoke during broiling.

GE stove JGSP28 igniter has been clicking non-stop for the last 2weeks. Blow drying the burners has slowed down the clicking to every 5sec. Front two burners seem to be clicking at the same time while...

Electric gas igniters sometimes get stuck in one position causing a clicking sound. The clicking sound that you hear is the electric arc that is pulsing from the igniter conductor (wire) to ground (the gas burner). It receives power from the electrical outlet that the stove is plugged into.
Residue from food and sometimes cleaning products may be preventing the igniter from producing a spark (Arc) to the base of the burner. This is a common problem that occurs when the stove has been cleaned or food is allowed to build up. Make sure that the igniter and the burner base are clean and dry. This will help with proper operation. Oven cleaner and a small tooth brush may be used to accomplish this. Another problem with ignition may occur if you have too little (touching) or too much space between the igniter and the base of the burner; it will prevent the burner from igniting. You should only have a little more space than the thickness of a nickel between the burner base and the igniter.
A good “blue” arc from the igniter to the burner base is optimal. If this doesn’t work, you make need to replace the electric igniter module. Good luck.

Hi. Stupid question for you, but I just can't find my manual! The model # of my GE self cleaning range is GRCR3630ZWW-2 if this helps. I need to clean my range today and how exactly do I do that using...

Hi, check this web page, which is a PDF file of GE oven manuals. It appears that you have to close a latch on the door to start the self cleaning.

GE JGSP28 Range broiler problem: flame comes out when door opened

The air shutter should be completely open. A possible adjustment may be necessary towards the closed position. The orifice needle at the orifice hood may be too tight. Take a 1/2 inch open end wrench and turn the hood counterclockwise to reduce pressure on the needle. Do this with the air shutter completely open. Your flame should reduce in size. The best flame would be about 1 inch long with white tips.
Make the adjustments with the flame off. Then light it and check it. If more adjustment is necessary, turn the broiler off before adjusting.

Wolf oven won't light after only 3 years since last repair.

You could try a new thermocouple and/or cleaning the pilot assembly. The thermocouple is the tube that screws into the pilot safety valve and runs to the actual pilot and is heated by the pilot flame. If you change this part be sure not to over tighten the thermocouple into the safety valve as it can break. You should go finger tight plus a quarter turn. Also you should check to see if the pilot is solid, not weak. Thermocouples can be purchased from your local equipment service company, sometimes Home Depot has them for water heaters, be sure you get on with proper length. Hope this helps.

Ge spectra gas stove top not lighting

If your top burners are not lighting or will not work, it is possible that the burners have become dirty or wet. Please follow the troubleshooting directions below before calling service:
  1. Turn you burner to the Lite position:

If you hear clicking or sparking, go to Step 2.

If you do not, check your circuit breakers. If the circuit breaker is ok, we recommend that you schedule service by calling 1-800-432-2737 or schedule service online.

  2. Clean the burner and electrode:

First remove the burner grate, cap, and head. Use a needle or paper clip to poke through the holes on the burner head. Re-assemble and try the burner.

Remove the burner grate, cap, and head. Even if it looks clean, wipe the tip of the electrode with a clean, dry paper towel and PRESS IT DOWN. Re-assemble and try the burner, again.

Check to see if the burner works, If not, then go to Step 3.

  3. Re-assemble - Make sure that each burner top matches its burner bottom. The burner top will lay flat if put on correctly.

Check to see if the burner works, If not, then go to Step 4.

  4. The spark igniter is operating properly, but the burner is still not lighting. At this point, we would recommend that you schedule service by calling 1-800-432-2737 or schedule service online.

How to clean?

The best cleaner I've found was from my Oreck store. It's called Stone Countertop Cleaner. It works!! It might leave a little glaze but after I spray, let set for a couple a minutes and wipe off, then go back over it with a clean paper towel after it dries, it looks as good as new.
