Question about Sony Mavica MVC-CD300 Digital Camera

IPhoto doesn't recognize Sony MVC CD300

I just upgraded to a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 (Mac) using OS 10.3.8 with iPhoto 4.0.3 and now I can't download photos from my Sony MVC CD300. When I first connect the USB cable from the camera to the G5, I get a message stating: "You have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OS X can read. To continue with the disk inserted, click ignore." However, when I click Ignore, nothing happens. I previously owned a PowerPC G4 that used OS 9.2 and my camera would either download or I could insert the mini-CD into my optical drive and read the images on it. Does anyone have any suggestions? Will upgrading to iPhoto 5 resolve the problem?

Re: iPhoto doesn't recognize Sony MVC CD300

Even though Sony Mavica digital cameras are listed as compatible with iPhoto, the camera has to be set to Picture-Transfer-Protocol (PTP) before you can download. In addition, you will need to open Image Capture in the Applications folder. As soon as these steps are taken, the camera is recognized by iPhoto and all photos downloaded into Image Capture.

You can download the latest Sony driver here. Since the camera is over a decade old it's unlikely Sony or anybody else will be writing new drivers for it.

Need upgraded photo loader for mac os x

Try using Image Capture. It's in the Applications folder and can read most digital cameras. If that doesn't work get a card reader and download the images that way.
If you have it, iPhoto should work with it as well and will help you to keep your photos organized and make adjustments.

Downloading movies from PowerShot SD850 IS to Mac G5

Sounds like you are watching the thumbnails but the files are still on the camera... try downloading/transfering via iphoto.. the files should show up in your iphoto library and if you double click them, it will launch quicktime and allow you to play it...
let me know if that gets you there...

Yours is a CD recording type. Shouldn't you just load the CD from the camera to the computer? Then cut and paste to a folder on your computer. Or copy and paste. Ed

I set the USB to PictBridge mode (press home button, then main settings). Now iPhoto recognizes the camera and I can import photos.

Cd300 resetting default setting

Okie-tex, Why yes you can reset your cd300 back to the factory settings. On the bottom of the camera underneath the on and off button for your LCD is a little hole and it says reset next to it. Insert a straight pin into that hole and it will reset everything back to factory settings. Fellow Texan

MVC-CD300 for Dummies?

for average still shots, do I need to constantly monitor & adjust scene selection (twilight, landscape, portrait)? No, just leave it on the little teal colored camera. If you want to use the scene selections then it must be on SCN. I unfortunately spent a lot of time when I first got this camera switching between scenes without putting it on SCN - so it didn't really change scenes! Also, when switching modes, must I turn camera off before rotating mode dial? No

I don't have that camera, but try Macro mode instead of Conversions Lens in setup. If the camera focuses (at Wide setting), then you should be able to get down into the wider apertures.

wow did you get an amazing deal on the camera? lol... to buy it with nothing? check sony's website, they must have a link to download the drivers for the mac. I presume you'd need to download something to be able to read sony formatted disks on a mac.
