I went out of town for a week and now my notebook won't start because of this error with the battery. do i need a new battery?
This sounds like a fail safe in the battery has engaged. See if the machine will start without the battery, on the supply only. If you can get it started then put the battery in and see if it will charge or reset the fail safe. Give it about an hour, then shut it completely down and restart it with the battery in. If it won't start at this point, then you will need a new battery.

Hi there,
The Error code 190 is to tell you the battery pack needs charging and the battery is essentially flat. Obviously the battery is exhausted after trying to keep your memory contents live for the week, so my recommendation would be first to take the battery out and reconnect the AC power adapter to system with the battery removed.
Once you have done that try and boot the system as normal and then once it has booted correctly shut the system down and re fit the battery. Then without turning the system on put the AC adapter back on and the battery charging light should come on, and then reboot as normal.
I hope that would clear the condition.
Best wishes.
