Usually this is a sign the felt bearings on the drum, or the roller bearings under the drum are worn and need replacing
felts and rollers should be visible once you open the case
check the rollers turn freely, check the felts are not worn through and metal showing
replace both rollers or both felts if one is worn
roolers are bout $9 /pair
felts can be anything the manufacturer thinks they are worth

Just read what I wrote, felts too, are worth replacing, much chepaer than a new dryer or a service call from a tech, who will just replace the felts

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

Our dryer has no heat. Is it worth fixing?

Hello ES Bailey,

The answer depends on a couple of other considerations first. If the dryer has been a good perfoming appliance for most of the time and hasn't had any major issues or constant repairs needed, it would be less expensive to repair the dryer than to buy new.

Some other things to consider, is the interior drum of the dryer still in good shape/condition? If so, repairs will be cheaper than buying a new dryer every time.

If the washing machine you have is getting ready for replacement, you might want to consider buying a whole new set of laundry appliances, but again, it makes more sense to buy only the appliance you need, rather than getting all new ones. Unless money isn't an issue and you're looking to get a newer style front loading washer, etc.

My only other advice is to say that there is nothing much in the way of technology or energy savings features for a dryer made today than one made 15 years ago. There is no such thing as an energy start rated dryer made anywhere in the world, unless you're hanging clothes on a clothesline to dry. So the only thing you'd get by buying a new dryer is, a new dryer at a higher price than the repair will be.

If it were me, I'd post a new question with the brand AND model number of the dryer and provide some details on gas or electric and so on and get some advice on how to fix the problem yourself and keep using it for years to come.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Heating element replacement

Without knowing more details (make, model, gas or electric), it's difficult to tell, but if you want know what part you need, you can visit repairclinic.com and they'll have parts listed AND photos of what the parts look like so you'll get the right thing.
It's definitely worth a look and a little effort. I find it hard to believe that you couldn't fix it cheaper than replacemtent of the dryer...
I think you're wise to ask this question...
Good luck on this... and let me know if you need more assistance.

My dryer is not drying properly. It takes 2 cycles to get clothes dry. I have cleaned the lint traps and vents but that did not seem to help. Is it worth fixing or is it time to get a new dryer?

You need to check the blower compartment to see if there is a restriction in airflow, also check the thermostat on the system as well. Where the stat is located is brand specific. Check your wiring diagram that is typically stored somewhere near the electronics on the inside in an envelope.

Your dryer needs a new motor. It should cost about $200-250 including labor. Call a local repairman - not a national company. Give him the model number and ask him to bring the motor with him.

Good luck!

A lot of times when people move they find their dryer has suddenly stopped working. Check the voltage at the outlet, make sure it matches the voltage on the i.d. plate on the appliance. I know people who didn't want to fuss with it and bought a new dryer only to find it did the same thing.

You didn't mention if the motor runs or if it heats. If it does both of these, you'll need a new belt.

You most likely have a clogged venting system going to the oustside.. Try this pull the dryer away from the wall remove the flex venting pipe.
Run a load now yes i know the heat and moisture will come in the house but it is just one load(open a window) if it works ok then you will need to get someone out to clean your vent and your money back from the repairman who came out .....any technician worth anything should have told you this.....98% of long dry time calls are a plugged venting..just and FYI...Hope this fix ya if so plz rate
