Laptop screen is totally blank as a duster with magnet was used to wipe the screen by erros

It is highly unlikely that using the magnetic duster could damage a LCD screen except putting scratches on the surface of the screen. There is nothing in a LCD screen that can be affected by a magnet. A magnet will affect a CRT monitor because a magnetic field will affect/deflect the electronic beams that hit the color phoaphorus dots on the screen.

You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:
  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display or appear black.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

SCREEN WONT TURN ON

Connect an external monitor (CRT or LCD) to the laptop's "VGA-out" port. Then, turn your laptop on. Does it show the usual "start-up" screen, on the external monitor? If so, then either your laptop's screen is totally-dead, or the "LCD-inverter" (a $20 part that takes $50 for a technician to replace) needs replacement.

Or, does your laptop have a key-sequence (LCD-screen-only, LCD-and-external, external-only) that needs to be used to select LCD-only mode?

Dell inspiron 1501 laptop screen has vertical lines in middle of screen, have taken apart to check connections but still there, any ideas ?

If the display is ok on an external monitor, then the problem is probably a bad tab board (tab welds) and the lcd will have to be replaced. If the external display is the same as the lcd then the inverter board or video card is bad.

Low brightness to no brightness on the m55-s139 toshiba notebook ;what are the possibility fix?

The backlight has probably gone out in your screen. Replacing a LCD screen is fairly easy and can be done alot cheaper yourself rather than paying 3-400 bucks to hire someone to do it.

This ebay page contains the screen you need and instructions on removal and installation for your screen. It also contains the necessary information to make sure you are purchasing the correct screen.

How do I replace the screen on my averatec 3200?

I visit a site frequently calle www.instructables.com. It's an amazing site that shows common people how to do simple and complex things. I found a DIY on how to replace a notebook's LCD screen

http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY---Replace-Broken-Laptop-LCD/

I also found a couple of prices for your the LCD screen. The first one is an ebay auction that actually gives you instructions, too. What's good about this one is that it gives you it specifically for your notebook.

How to replace my backlight, for a compaq 2500

Your laptop's LCD is illuminated by cold-cathode bulbs, often times a specific size for fitting purposes within your laptop's screen (as size constraints and cosmetic differences can leave little to no room withing the top lid for standard bulbs).

Replacing the back-light bulbs requires the original parts, or replacement as approved by the manufacturer. The first place I would start would be contacting HP (who now owns compaq) at 1-800-hpinvent and inquiring as to the cost for just a replacement screen for your model. Otherwise, you can order one from eBay or some other similar online resource.

The actual installation is quite simple, but it requires about 15-20 minutes of time, and three or four specific tools.

You have to disassemble the top lcd beveled casing, you have to detatch the lcd from the video flex cable that runs through the hinges of the unit and underneath the keyboard bevel. And re-attatch all said parts when you are complete. Keep track of the screws you remove in order to release the casing. And on the screen, often times those little rubber dots along the LCD screen actually need to be removed to locate several more screws.

That solution is if you purchase the entire LCD replacement contained together, which can be considerably more expensive than just replacing the back light. But finding the compatible parts to replace your LCD's defective ones might be close to impossible.

A quick search to help explain the process of replacing the cathode bulbs brought up this website via google:

http://www.inventgeek.com/Projects/shorts/overview.aspx

It has pictures that help illustrate the process for a standard screen. You would modify the instructions for your laptop's LCD screen.

If you do purchase a replacement LCD kit, you can always bring it to a Geeksquad technician and request an estime, or shop around to find a certified repair center that will install it for you.

Hope that helps.

Dell 1501 Laptop. Have a 2 inch vertical bar that is almost in the center of the laptop screen. This doesn't show up with a external monitor. Have updated bios and video driver and nothing seems to fix...

Unfortunately this usually is an LCD screen or cable problem and could just be coincidence. You CAN revert to a previous BIOS version, but I am not aware of a way to get one.
