If it is a Pentax bayonet mount lens, switch the DS to "M" mode, dial in the aperture you want on the lens ring, push the AEL button. The camera stops the lens down, takes a reading and adjusts the shutter speed accordingly.

They will - fully open in Av mode, and with any aperture in manual mode - after you allow the Ds through the custom settings menu to use aperture settings different then "A". To choose correct exposure with such a lens in manual mode you can use the AE-button - it stops down the aperture, reads the EV and sets the shutter speed according to the chosen aperture.

My Pentax K100 DSLR is flashing "av" and will not take a photograph, though the shutter works fine and takes pictures without the lens.

"AV" means apeture priority. This means that you set the apeture that the camera will use, and it decides the shutter speed. The flashing "av" means that you've picked an apeture that the camera can't pick a suitable shutter speed for at this light level. I would suggest picking a different apeture, or switch the camera to full automatic mode via the dial on the top left of the camera.

Fee error, Nikon N60

Are you using a Nikon "d" lens? on my D70 Fee means that the lens apeture is not set to minimum. If you have an apeture ring, set it to minimum.

I just purchased the Nikon AF f/1.8 85mm lens and it's giving me an error message on my D300, it wont let me change the apeture via lens ring,if the ring is locked I can adjust it with the controll wheel...

There doesn't seem to be a problem with the 85mm.

Nikon has made a lot of different 50mm f/1.8 lenses, so I won't say anything about them without knowing which particular type.

F-- appears in window with the 18-135mm attached to D80

F-- means that the camera cannot find an apeture with the other settings that it is on put yur ISO on auto and put the camera in automatic mode and it should work but it might be a problem with the apeture in the lense, in which case it would be very hard to fix and you would probably end up desroying the lense in the process, if you did not go to a specialist.

For Nikon AF 24-50mm f/3.3-4.5D Zoom-Nikkor Lens I need instruction book. Specifically, there are dots side by side marking the apeture selected, left one yellow, right one green, what one is correct and...

The green mark is the index for the aperture setting at 24mm, the yellow mark is the index at 50mm. These really only matter if you are setting the exposure manually and using an external meter. The green mark is the primary mark -- as you turn the ring you will notice that it lines up with a number at every clickstop, while the yellow one is a bit off.

The pull down lever you ask about is the aperture lock. Autofocus film cameras and all digital cameras expect the lens to be set at smallest aperture (highest number). They will give an FEE error if it is not set correctly. When you turn the aperture ring to smallest aperture you will be able to slide the white dot into position next to the orange mark, and that will lock the aperture ring so that it is not accidentally tgurned while using or changing the lens.

My daughter is having trouble with using my old AE-1. She is trying to set the apperture manually but sees no change inside the lense. Can you tell me if there is something that she is not doing correctly...

The apeture is toward the back part of the lens. Shine a light down into the front of the lens and turn the apeture ring, you should see it change size.

Nikon d50 flashing f--

It's because you don't have the apeture/F-stop ring set to f22 on the lens. When yourcamera is in auto or program mode it needs to set the apeture itself.
