Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P10 Digital Camera

Question from a digital illiterate

Hi there, My dad's looking for a portable device which can basically store all his pictures and where he can look at them wherever he goes. He's not very digitally competent, so right now he just keeps buying these big memory cards so he won't ever have to delete pictures from his digital camera! I was looking at the new Creative Zen portable media center, and also the Archos Gmini and Archoz Video Recorder - but not sure which would be the best fit. He's also computer illiterate, so ideally he would like a device that can download pictures directly from his Sony cybershot camera (with just the USB) , instead of having to go through a PC... any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Try the Epson multi-media thing ( circuit city and Best buy have them in the photo department) they have 40 gb's of memory and load directly from the card.- great device- about 450 dollars- you need an adapter for memory stick- I didn't check to see if you could load from USB

That is an interesting question. The devices you mentioned still need a computer to load them. There has to be a device that will do what you want, because all you need is a portable digital camera photo storage device (plenty around) and a portable display device (plenty around). Surely someone put the two together. And so they did: Check out the FlashTrax by SmartDisk: http://www.smartdisk.com/

I have come across my Dad's Canon Sure Shot z135 caption camera and I'd like to use it. By chance, are there any instructions and film to be had? Sentimental reasons.

A camera with a good ol' roll of film is very different from the versatile digital cameras (and even cell phones) available today.
Yes, you'll need film. You'll need to chose an ISO (which is something that is merely a setting on digital devices), so it depends if you will want to shoot by day, night, still objects, moving objects, etc... A higher ISO will make you more versatile, but will also add more grain to the picture (which could be a wanted effect).

I suggest you carry it into a specialized camera store and they'll be able to help you discover your dad's camera.

Kitvision photo frame

The majority of these devices were made to flip photographs in sequence to one another or in random. They had a single storage system whereby 1st in was last seen in rotation. Some units allow for individual storage on the SD and when independently inserted into the frame the content on the single SD was active and sequentially displayed each graphic. If your device has an INTERNAL storage capacity whereby you can transfer the data from the SD to the internal storage chip, then you should have an instruction sheet advising you what the procedure is. If not, contact the Frame maker for assistance.

1996 Saturn sl1 was starting on a dime and now wont start

Hi Jennifer, I believe that it purely coincidence that this problem started when your dad drove the car. There is basically nothing he could have done to promote the problem. I believe the fault has something to do with the anti theft device becoming active. If you can manage to have the car diagnostically scanned and the key encodement re activated I'm thinking that will sort out the problem. Even if that is not the problem the diagnostic scan will pin point where the problem is. Regards John

Is it possible to recover missing pictures?

I don't think those picture can be recovered as those might have stored in the temporary memory for a while and every time he took another pic it might have over-written in the previous one..

Better remove the Micro SD card and try to connect to PC and check if its available in the card

I have 2 handicapp vans with TV's. I need to upgrade them to digital I suppose since neither works now. Where do I get the device for mobile conversion and operation?

If you continue to operate the same TVs...you will need to purchase a conversion box. This conversion box will except digital signals to analog and provide an outstanding picture to your already installed TVs. You may have to search for a battery type device for the van you have. But I'm sure you will seek and find. Check at a reputable electronic store....the discounts stores more than likely will not have these! Good Luck!

What is a portable USB (2.0) hard drive ??? Is it just a big USB ? Please tell me everything about USB (2.0) hard drive.

First of all, USB is an interface, that can be used for various computer peripherals, like a mouse, keyboard, printer, storage devices etc. Additionally, the USB interface is able to deliver some power (5V 500mA), which is quite enough for many devices. USB 2.0 is the newer, faster version of the original USB 1.1 specification.
Now for USB storage. Basically there are two types on the market. First are Flash (solid-state devices), usually in form of a "dongle" (called pendrive, stick). They store information in semiconductor memory. Second are hard disks, just like the ones installed in desktop and laptop computers - they store information on magnetic media.
Hard disks in a small enclosure, equipped with special interface, that enables them to be connected via the USB interface, are "portable USB hard drives". Many of them can be powered from the USB socket alone, some need an additional power supply.
With today's technology, hard disks can have 10-20 times larger capacity than flash devices, so they are still indispensable when you want to store a lot of big files (like pictures, movies etc), or back up the contents of your computer's hard drive as a safety copy.
