Magnvox 50 inch rear projection tv

I have a 50 inch rear projection hdtv. The color has a blue halo in the middle of the screen. My question is should I spend the money to repair it? I have called several shops and the bill should be 500.00.

I had the same problem. Different repair men told me the same thing....about $500.00 to repair. I purchased a new LCD tv.

Have you tried cleaning the projectors? I had a halo issue and that resolved it. Good luck

Red and fuzzy picture can you help on my 50 inch phillips magnavox projection TV

This is a very common failure on Projection TV sets.
Screen looks 3D
Colors don't line up
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed or warped.
The other common problem is cloudy lens fluid. After many years the coolant in the blue and green lens will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, bright white, etc. You may even see halos around video.
You can see some example photos and find a solution here on Fixya.

Inside of your TV their is a fluid that keeps the tubes cool. Over the years this fluid will turn cloudy and cuase the screen to look dull, bright white, have halos, etc. You can get the fluid over the internet from various sources or your can get a complete kit including repair instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com.

Philips 55 inch hdtv rear projector

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.
