Focusing screen question

Is anyone using a focus screen with micro prizm center ? I know Pentax does not sell one for DS but I've heard that you can modify from other Pentax model. Lately, I am using 2 primes most of times Takumar M 28 mm and Pentax A 50 mm. I like these primes for their sharpness and compact size. I really love the size of DS with these small primes. Only down side is that the manual focus with current focusing screen. I like the size and brightness but little difficult to focus in certain situation (low light). I am having good success with manual focus and throw away shots are minimal (little more than auto focus). I think if I have focusing screen like the one on ME super, it would be really great.

Re: focusing screen question

Why install a screen with split image and microprism and then want it to show you the autofocusing sensor positions? Ok, I understand that you from time to time mount an AF lens. Good thing then that the AF sensor marks doesn't have anything to do with the screen used. The screen is a piece of plastic only and there is some other technical mumbo jumbo involved when it comes to superimpose those red squares. You install it following the directions supllied with the screen. There is a little pincett for holding the screen, there is a locking retaining clip that holds the screen at position and everything is pretty easy. In fact you should be able to find pictures and descriptions given here if you search for it. Also see any post by John Powers (racehorse...) for links to posts of interest.

Re: focusing screen question

Pentax make three different screens for the D and DS. Go check their homesite, or do a search here. None of the Pentax oriinal screens has microprismes or split image. They are engraved in different ways.

My Pentax Optio W10 camera takes some out of focus photos. What do I do to solve this problem?

Your camera has the option for manual focus. This option allows you to focus the camera to capture what you want, rather than the auto-focus feature.

This will be indicated by a MF in the top center of your camera screen. You should be able to change this by finding record mode and changing your AF settings. Change your MF to the [ ] option and you should be on auto-focus settings.

Hope this helps.

*IST DS autofocus

Try using another lens, if this solves the problem you have a lens problem. If not the camera is the problem.

Pentax *ist DS digital SLR Autofocus problem

Being an SLR camera, you should try another lens. It may be a servo fault in the lens. If the lens is okay, then it can be anything in the lens sensing, lens control drive circuits, and or lens to camera interface area. This would have to be properly diagnosed and serviced.

I don't know if I can help you. But I will try a guess. Some cameras focus on 1 point and it is not necessary the center. Maybe if you give your camera a point to focus on then keeping your fingers half cocked on the shutter shift the focus off-center to however you want to compose it, then click.
But if it was working properly before and then stopped working properly, did you lend your camera to someone, drop it or subject it to impact? I don't think anything is really wrong but I could be wrong. Have you checked the AF/MF button. Could someone may have accidentally pressed it?
If you are using the macro lens, did you check the camera's distance limits? I understand that the 7D actually focuses faster than the Canon EOS and Pentax. Canon and Pentax need to hunt that's why they take longer.

The auto focus does not work

Try the Pentax tech support they may have an idea But if it is a board fault- will it be an economical repair proposition? They may also offer a 'swap out' option if it is an on going issue.

DS Front Focus Problem

I had a similar challenge with my D, the difference being it back focussed, it only happened with one lens, my FA* 24/2.0. Strangely, after returning them both to Pentax, it turned out to be the body, not the lens, which was kind of bizarre! Eventually after 3 months of backwards and forwards with the body, Pentax replaced it with a new one. Everything is now fine (apart from 1 hot pixel, which I can cope with). I pursued the matter with politeness and accepted the delays, the staff at Pentax UK were MOST helpful, but tied by company rules that the repairs had to go back to Germany each time, which added probably 80% to the delays. I ran with film in my MZ-S and digital on my Fuji 602 (backup digicam) while it was being sorted. I must admit I'm considering adding another body, but will probably wait until the year Pentax decide to bring the out D replacement.

Ist DS Locked up - non functioning

If you go to http://www.pentaximaging.com and click on the service link it will tell you how to send it back (in the United States). My camera had a focusing problem. It was there for almost seven weeks before it was returned. I am not sure how good their technicians are since three weeks after I got the camera back the autofocus quit working again. I ordinarily use manual focus, but no one else in the family does. I called Pentax to complain and was told to ship the camera back (again). Finally they agreed to put out a pick up order for the camera. I was told they would pick it up sometime next week. I expect I won't see the camera again until November and that the camera will have spent a significant time at Pentax during the warranty period.

Flash problem

That is normal operation, if poped up, the flash fires rapidily in low light to assist the auto focus, on a plain white wall, it can't focus, see the manual on AUto Focus limitations.
