It would also help if you tell us which version of Windows you have.

The black screen is normal until various bits and pieces of the operating system are loaded.

It doesn't take much to produce white text on a blackscreen.

HP loves to mess around with Windows making it sometimes tough to deal with but you can try tapping F5 or F8 right after the first sign of life on the screen to see if you can access the 'Safe' mode.

This may or may not (hey, it's HP) bring up a short text menu tha allows you to choose from several options, one of which might be 'Recovery.'

Depending on how badly HP has hacked Windows, this may or may not (!) be a destructive recovery process by which some will lose all your personally created work.

I have issues with the f1703 monitor as wel - the OSD will not turn off - though the more common failure of this model is that the screen is black after a very short usage time period. Apparently, this model monitor was defective, and was recalled by HP. However, they failed to give notice, so I would recommend following up with them to attempt to get it replaced. Good luck! (Further, it could be that the defective monitor may be affecting Windows in some form or fashion, but I wanted to inform you regarding the monitor.)

If this information assists you in resolving the problem, please take a moment to rate the solution at a "FixYa" level. If you do not feel that you can rate at a "FixYa", please post back with more information regarding what has occurred subsequently and/or more details regarding the situation, and I will gladly help you until we have reached a definitive solution. Thank you for using and rating FixYa!

CDROM CANNOT READ MY ZUMA DELUXE CD. ERROR IS UNKNOW FILE TYPE.

I would say that windows is missing the codecs to play your cd. You can get the codecs by running windows update by right clicking on computer and then properties. and then click on the windows update and click get updates now.

An easier solution would be to download vlc player. It will play any file and cd or dvd. just google for vlc media player and download it and open the cd with VLC

I continully receive a message of the screen is not in optimal mode of 1920X1080. I have gone to the screen setttings and have applied this yet I continue to receive the message when I go to play a game....

Your game does not natively run at the same resolution as Windows. Check the video/graphics settings in the game itself to adjust the resolution to 1920x1080.
Note that increasing the resolution to this, will drastically increase the load on your graphic card.

When i plug the monitor into my computer the flashes Benq only!

Try connecting the monitor to a different computer, e.g., a laptop.

The power-cord to the monitor seems to be OK.

Check the "data" cable between the monitor and the computer -- try a different cable.

With the monitor turned on, restart your computer, and watch the monitor. The computer should show some start-up messages (white text over black background), followed by the Windows "splash" screen. If it does, the monitor is working correctly.

My monitor has a black screen with a cursor blinking in the upper left hand corner; what is the issue?

That blinking cursor is the way in which the BIOS is telling you that Windows is missing - its most critical, core files have been corrupted beyond repair. The only thing you can do is to reinstall using the recovery cd or your own Windows install disk.

Screen saver displaying unwanted message

This happens on monitors with a sleep type function. Make sure that the sleep mode is turned off and that it is set to never turn off inside of windows. Then the no signal error should not come on again.

SCREEN READS NTLDR IS MISSING

Hi TAPOLA,

If you are getting this message, then rhe problem is not with your monitor at all. It is actually with your Windows XP operating system. Your monitor is working fine. Though to fix the problem you would need to get your Windows XP CD and boot off the disc, if you boot from the CD you will get a brief message "Press any key to boot from CD..." as soon as you see that you need to press any key within 5 seconds. If done successfully you'll see a different screen and its a blue screen with loading files on it. Afterwards it will be on the setup page so press "R" for recovery console and on the command prompt you need to type this command: CHKDSK /R and it will run scan and repair of Windows. It will take sometime, afterwards it will bring you on the prompt and you just need to type EXIT to reboot the system. Just let it reboot to Windows and see if it works.

Hope his helps!

Peace! :)

Adobe installation

Hooray! Found the solution. Seems the problem is you must have the Adobe Reader 7.0.9 installer on your system to be able to install 8.1.1. You can d/l version 7.0.9 (which includes the installer) here:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/read...llversions.html
Install the whole thing, then you should be able to install your 8.1.1, which will remove the 7.0.9 version in the process, but will use its installer.
