Re: Vertical black bar in middle of screen
I hope you are aware of how the individual pixels are controlled via an X-Y matrix. These are contained in ICs that are normally not replaceable individually by hand since they are installed by robotic machinery that is far more competent than the human hand.
The LCD itself is probably without problems but I suspect the drivers (which could be proprietary) may not be separable from the screen assembly as the panel may often be supplied by one company and the rest by the manufacturer whose name appears on the set.

Hi, It is hardware issue related to LCD Panel (screen). Regarding fixing it, it depends if you are handy with electronics stuff repair and can replace circuit boards in tv etc then please check T-Con (lcd controller board) on top center position at rear of lcd panel, this board would be covered with metal shield. Need to take off back cover of tv to get access to T-Con board. If T-Con board does not solve lines problem of screen then LCD Panel is bad and will be replaced. If you fee uncomfortable doing so then repairman option is better choice. Hope this info will help you. Thanks.
There are two boards at the bottom of the set connected to the panel. Follow the black line to the boards(it will be inline with one or the other) either that board is bad or the panel itself is bad . The boards do not meet exactly in the middle.
You will need to replace the Main board and I would also replace the LVDS cable that connects the main board to the LCD panel.Very easy to do, but might take about 2 hours depending on your comfort level.
You will need:
LVDS cable – Part # 0500-0505-0540
Main board – Part # 3632-0652-0395
Those part numbers will work if you have a model number VOJ320F1A.
If you post the model number I will try to find the part number for you.
there is a good chance that I can solve your problem, although for me and others this problem usually shows itself as black bars that go from top to bottom, not just half way. go to the following link and read the entire thread, it is very good info. I have done this and it worked perfectly on a gateway plasma, but it also works on numerous others. there is a guy on ebay that sells a fix for $80, and it appears to be exactly what i did.

Ok if your hitachi TV dies with no power anywhere try this: Some models have a kill switch under the bottom edge. It's like a gray switch like a small light switch press it back in and voila let there be LIGHT. Saves you at least a $200 trip to repair shop!!
It will burn into the screen overtime. The Akai units have a resistor on the address board that feeds the PDP that usually has a crack in the solder on one or both ends of it. There are about 4 address boards that are right below the panel itself and the suspect one is the board right below the line that is appearing. Have someone with solder skills repair it.
