Hello,

IT could be one of two things. First make sure that you have the laptop set to display on the LCD. Most laptops will have a Function key labeled by Fn then you will need to look at the function keys at the top F1-F12 and find the one that either says CRT/LCD or has a picture of a screen or monitor. Then, after you have found that key, you will need to press and hold the Fn key and tap the appropriate function key, this will alternate between the LCD (laptop) and CRT (monitor). If you have trouble finding the correct key combination for switching displays should be listed in the manual.

If that doesn't correct it, then I would try locating a desktop CRT and connecting it to the monitor connection on the rear of the laptop and again pressing the keys to switch between CRT/LCD. If it shows on the CRT then I would say that the LCD on the laptop is bad.

Thanks

My desktop pc turns on but will not come up on my monitor my monitor is not faulty as its the same on other monitors ive tried the monitor comes on as if to load but then a little box comes up safe mode...

When the computer starts, you should have white letters on the screen showing the BIOS. If you do have this, restart it and immediately start tapping F8 if you have windows on that computer. This should bring up a menu and on that menu you should see safemode. Select that using the arrow keys on the keyboard. The computer should come up with a screen that is bigger than you are used to. From that screen you can logon if you have to and then you can change the display settings. From what you are describing it seems that the monitor cannot deal with the signal sent from the computer.

Hp pavilion dv7-4165dx black screen

A blacked-out screen doesn't necessarily indicate a broken monitor.
If the computer has run out of charge or is in hibernation or sleep mode,

if the screen is too dark, or if the display cable has come disconnected from the motherboard, the screen may appear black or fail to turn on.

To fix a blacked-out laptop screen, troubleshoot the screen settings, check the LCD connector and see if the computer is awake and receiving power.

Touch the touchpad or move the external mouse to see if the computer is asleep or hibernating. If the computer fails to respond, press "Enter" on the keyboard.

Press the power button if the screen remains black.

Confirm that the power indicator light, found at the front of the computer or above the keyboard, is glowing solid green or blue.

Confirm that the power adapter is plugged into the computer and into a wall outlet. Confirm that battery indicator light is glowing solid green or blue.

Hold down the "Fn" key. Press the up-arrow to see if the screen brightness increases.
Some computers also use the "F6" or "F7" keys to increase screen brightness.

Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off the laptop.
Remove the AC adapter from the computer, close the screen, and then turn the PC over.

Slide the battery latch to eject the battery. Pull the battery out of its compartment.

Turn the computer back over, open the lid, and insert the edge of a flathead screwdriver or other flat, solid object beneath the bezel above the keyboard.

Wedge the edge of the keyboard bezel off of the top cover.
Work your way along the edge of the keyboard bezel to loosen it.
Pull the bezel off the laptop.

Trace the cable coming from the laptop screen to the connector found beneath the bezel. Reconnect the display cable to the motherboard if the cable has come loose from the connector.

Line up the tabs on the bezel with the slots along the top of the keyboard. Insert the right edge of the bezel into the gap above the keyboard, and then push the bezel back in place.

Turn the computer back on. If the laptop screen is still blacked out, connect an external monitor to the video port on the side of the PC to confirm that the video card isn't defective.

If the external monitor works, the LCD screen could be broken.

If the monitor doesn't work, the motherboard or video card might need to be replaced.

Hope this helps

My computer turns on but the screen remains black. What should I do?

Hello,

The problem can be solved by these steps
1) Check the Video connector properly connected to PC
2) Monitor power supply cable fault
3) The VGA card is not working properly
4) The screen resolution is set to higher than the monitor supported resolution limit
The Best way to solve it replace monitor and see it is working properly
In case the monitor still stay blank you should check the VGA card

Try to start cmos setup and see whether the monitor still remains blank then it's VGA problem

Go to start, control panel, power options and see what your time are when the laptop is plugged in and when it on battery.

Do that and let me know what you find.

I will watch for your reply.

When i boot the computer the moniter doesn't come on screen stays black

What that suppose to mean was that is either you are connecting the system with the monitor and powering the system while the system comes on buyt the monitor was not displaying anything. what happen there is that is either you are not fixing well tightly the VGA cable that comes from the monitor in well contact to the system or the VGA card on the system is faulty, has open legs ,has made an ilegal sitting on the VGA slot or even try the system with another monitor if the problem is solved there then the monitor itself is the problem but if it remain black then check the VGA card on the system for replacement or make it sit well in its slot . thanks for the question anything to do for you again post it again and i reach back to you .bye

HELP! Laptop screen has shrunk... black border on screen.

Big Lebowski - this refers to an issue with a laptop.
No CRT on a laptop.
It is more likely a driver issue.
Go to dell.com, look for support, put in your service tag & update the graphics drivers.

Hello, I bought a monitor for my laptop, model 2232BW, and I cannot get it to function properly. My wallpaper comes up on the monitor and also my mouse but all my desktop items remain on my laptop...

You have the graphics driver set to Extended Desktop.
If you move the cursor to the right, can you see it on the new monitor?
If so you can drag any application window over to the new monitor.
If you don't like this then right-click on the desktop wallpaper and choose Properties, then find an Advanced tab and an Extended Desktop checkbox and uncheck it.

My laptop will turn on but not actually power up the screen remains black the entire time, It sounded like it tried to start a few times but did not. It has all the blue lights on like it is running but...

If your laptop has a monitor output, try connecting one. There should be a key (or two keys) that you can press to get the computer to route the signal to the external monitor port once your laptop has finished the startup. Try to get a monitor that has as high of a resolution as possible. It is very possible that the settings for the video on your laptop got set at a resolution your screen cannot function with.
