My speakers just started to sound funny--like the sound coming from them is from a large hollow barrel. What can I do to fix this? Do I need to update the driver?

Try a restore . Check if it is coming in bios also that way . Press all the keys on the keyboard to get sounds and see if it is hollow . If it is not in the bios just update the drivers.
Hollow cubes indicate the water inlet valve is defective ( not letting enough water into the ice maker ) . Replace the valve behind the refrig ( the piece the wall water lne connects to on the refrig ) . Do not try adjusting the water on the ice maker itself , even if someone else suggests it , as this adjustment is factory preset .
i think you're driver did not do the right setting for you. try searching drivers from this site http://www.rudytarigan.com/laptop/toshiba-satellite-l310-drivers.htm or search realtex HD manager. They will do all the work for you
