Hi rastafari1,
I think that your Explorer is running without adds-on,, to fix this you must go to C:/Programs Files/Internet Explorer/ and open the internet icon that is in there, it shall be iexplorer... if this fixes your problem just bring a short cut of it to your desktop...

How to Correct the Error KB927917

There are a couple of things you can try to fix this. I think you must likely will just need to run IE8 with 'compatibility view' enabled (see below).

Method 1

I would suggest you to run the website in Compatibility mode and check whether you are able to access the website. Follow the steps mentioned below to turn Compatibility View on or off,
a. Click the Compatibility View button that is present near the address bar, or add the website to the Compatibility list.
Follow the steps mentioned below to add the website in compatibility list.
a. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type Internet Explorer, and then, in the list of results, click Internet Explorer.
b. Click the Tools button, and then click Compatibility View.
For further reference follow the article mentioned below.

Hi,

First try clearing the Temporary Internet Files from Internet Options>
General> Browsing History> Delete> (next screen)> Delete files.

Next, you may have an incompatible browser add-on.
