Question about ASUS WIRELESS ROUTER |WL-520G - RT (WL520G)

1 Answer

Networking Problem Hi, Im currently using XP SP3 and currently have a cable modem ( motorola sb4 200 ) and a brand new asus wl-520gu. When i connect directly to the computer via the modem it works fine however when i go through the router it will not work. I have tried the following to fix it but still no solution; Turn off and reset about a thousand times Disable all firewalls etc etc etc Called my ISP but will not offer any support for the router. I was previously using a D LINK WRT54Gs and worked perfectly until it broke down a few days ago. Please offer some help or if possible find out if the modem and router dont match because i cannot see anywhere on the web where it says so. Cheers Shaun

I have CavTel DSL with slow (400-500) but usable service. When I bought and introduced a WL-520GU router, no wired or wireless internet connection could be established. After numerous powerdowns and canned remedies, and calls to both CavTel and ASUS Techs (pointing fingers at each other), the ASUS tech said the unit must be faulty. This morning I just received the replacement (out $10.00 shipping the return) and fonund the same problem.

Another call to CavTel this time highlighted I'm 16900 feet from the DSL source, and they are NOW saying wireless routers will only support DSL up to about 12000 feet. It's obvious the router (any wireless router?) is further degrading the DSL signal to oblivion.

This second router going back today (another $10.00 freight).

For $20.00 I learned to live with my wired DSL.

    Thought you'd like to know.

When you are connected to your modem, find out what your IP address is....(double click on the icon in the lower left corner of your monitor) under the support tab it will give you your IP address you are being issued from your ISP. Now go ahead and connect the router and then connect your pc to your router. Go to your web based settings of your router....(type 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 into an open browser window) admin is usually the username and password. From there you will want to go to "status"...make sure the same ip address was assigned to your router as it was assigned to your PC. If not you will have to release and renew to have your ISP re-assign to your new router. Within those settings ensure there is nothing prohibiting you from accessing the internet....your router will have a built in firewall as well as have mac filtering and certain other security settings. Let me know if this helps....once you have done this I will check back and assist you further if this is unsuccessful.

Good Luck

I use the Asus WL-330ge as a network adapter for my HP Printer. This worked perfectly until I switched internet providers. I changed the IP on my printer to the same subnet as my new wireless router...

Let me state how I think you have this setup
Printer is Ethernet ---------- Ethernet (WL-330GE wireless adapter)
WL-330GE adapter >>>>>> Wireless >>>>>> New Router

eth_adapter_mode-d2r1efs5ntrf2rjwzg4ldeyi-5-0.jpg Diagram and mode is from
https://www.asus.com/Networking/WL330gE/HelpDesk_Manual/
ASUS WL-330gE user's manual in English

So I think you need to use Ethernet Adapter Mode !

The computer shown would be your printer
As you are using wireless you need to set up the wireless ssid and the wpa or wep encryption to match the new router I am guessing .
in section 4.3 advanced settings in the above manual link from ASUS.
Also the access point has an ip address by default as 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0 you would have to most likely have 176.16.1.2 and the new router as 176.16.1.1 and the same subnet mask what ever it is maybe it is 255.255.255.0 then make the printer 176.16.1.5 subnet 255.255.255.0 or whatever subnet you use.
Make sure you log into the new router and alter the DHCP server to assign leases from 176.16.1.10 to 176.16.1.254 with same subnet mask.

Try a brand-new cable between the modem and the "uplink" port on the router.
Try a brand-new cable from one of the "LAN" ports to your computer, and test to see that you get a good connection.

Asus WL 520gu can't connect internet

1, connect your wireless router with cable to your laptop,
2. Login into your Asus-WL520gu and setup your wireless how you want it to run." do not bother with putting your username settings in there"
3. In your Asus-WL-520gu after setting up your wireless turn the DHCP off in it.
4. Now connect the cable that you have connected to your laptop to your router instead of your laptop.
""You should now be able to connect to the wireless with your settings. and connect anything ells you want to the other 4 ports on the back of you wireless router"" note: do not connect anything to the WAN port as it is used for DSL modems; and not Routers with ADSL modem.
when connecting a router to a router - the one that is connecting you to the internet needs DHCP turned on because it is the one that will be giving you IPs and Gateway settings - the other router such as wireless router after setting it up needs its DHCP turned off - other wise you will have 2 routers trying to do the same thing with ip's and gateways. And you should never connect a modem router to the WAN port as it is a modem router and NOT just a DSL-modem. The WAN port is intended for DSL-modems only. Not only consumers but also many technicians make that mistake

Routers

Hi Like,

Unplug the router, Don't hook it to anything but you PC you are have the CD in. Use the cable that came with the unit, plug it into your pc ethernet port and one of the 4 ports marked LAN. Make sure not use the port marked WAN. Make sure you use the ethernet cable, not the USB. Power up the router, and put the easystart cd in. Once it autostarts, press the Easy Setup button on the router for about 8-10 sec. The Easy Setup on your screen should respond. From there out, follow the prompts.
For the manual, follow this link.
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx

The quick start should solve your setup connection issues, if you have any. Also, make sure you have your firewalls disabled. And re-enable them what you are done, to be safe!

Good Luck!
