You need to buy an external DVD RW, you will be able to watch and record DVD and CDs on your Eee.
Here is a lelection, they start from $40
Cheap ones are usually big, probably bigger than your Eee, here are a couple of nice pocket model

Addonics Pocket DVD+/-R/RW - DVDâ±RW drive

External Dual Layer DVDâ±RW Drive

LG LightScribe External DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Slim

Targus PACMB010U DVD/CD-RW Drive

Let me know if this had been helpful.

Many thanks

Listen, If the Eee does not have internal DVD or even space to put any optical disk inside, how do you think you can stick a disk in it, you need an external unit.

I am sorry you gave me bad rating for a good solution

    Bye

If instead of watching DVDs you mean watching movies, then you can download movies from the Internet (possibly legally) and put them in a 4 GB usb memory stick.
That will be smaller than external DVD.

Is it possible to remove the top optical drive bay's front panel and fit the optical drive without it?

The front panel drive panel needs to be removed so you can install an optical drive. There may be a metal panel behind the plastic front panel, if so this will need to be removed so the optical drive can be inserted into the drive bay.

Hi i am just wondering why all of a sudden my dvd wont play normal dvds but will play cds and home made dvds please help many thanks karen

In most cases when the CD does not play it is possible that the optical head is a suspect. Sometimes it might pick up ordinary audio CD but will not play other formats. This indicates that the optical head is weak and so there is no detection or scanning of the CD . If the optical is working the tracks will be read immediately but with no scanning the laser head can be defective.

The main motor will not work in some cases as unless the tracks are read the drive motor will not work with signal from the processor.
Sometimes certain cleaner disks will not be tracked to run for cleaning as it will not be read and so will reject. Hence it is ideal to manually clean the laser head eye using a cleaning swap /cotton bud with gentle pressure on the lens eye.
If there is no result then watch if the CD spins or tries to spin. If so the board seems to work unless a test is taken on the main board but the possibility of a defective optical head can be the suspected fault.
If any of the above seems otherwise we must recheck with possibilities of a malfunction of the main processor board

The integrated dvd player will not read the dvds, any advice on how to fix this problem, I have already tried a disc cleaner?

Please try to put in an ordinary audio CD track and see if this is detected. If yes the optical is working, if not there is no laser scanning and the possibility of the head being faulty is high.
Now certain cleaner disks are not read and so will not be tracked. Hence the rejection but the best is for cleaning manually the laser head eye with a cotton bud very softly and without pressing the lens eye.
If there is still no result then watch the CD if it spins or tries to spin. If the head unit moves up or down to focus or in and out of the drive, if so the board seems to work correctly and the possibility of the optical head being the suspected fault is closer.
Please take an estimate of the cost of the optical head before you can decide to replace.

How do i work the dvd hard drive

Just rip all your DVDs to your computer or external storage, install a plugin for Windows Media Player (if you have it), and you've now got a digital library of movies that you can watch at any time from anywhere! If you have an xBox 360
or Apple TV, it's super easy to get your DVDs onto your HDTV.
The process is relatively simple, so even if you are not technically savvy, you should be able to rip all of your DVDs without an issue.

If there is still no result then watch the DVD if it spins or tries to spin. If the head unit moves up or down to focus or in and out of the drive, if so the board seems to have issues and the possibility of the optical head being good.
Finally try to see if the set records on a DVD with a given signal source. If not the fault is confirmed that the main PCB, processing section is faulty.

My ibbok 3g wont play dvds or youtube? help

Many iBook G3s came with optical drives for CDs only, not DVDs; and the decoding software for many of today's popular video formats runs extremely slow on all G3 processors. It's not clear that there is anything wrong with your computer other than its age. The first iBook G3 models were ten years old last February.

My laptop wont play dvds!

One of two possibilities:

1. Your laptop does not have a DVD player installed. Check the bezel on the optical drive and see if it says DVD on it. If not, then it won't play DVDs.

2. The DVD player needs to be replaced as the DVD laser has gone bad.

write the publishers - they're using more complex methods of preventing people from legally watching their legally purchased DVDs on anything other than sanctioned standalone players.

DDW-081 CD\DVD Recorder can't read CD

It is possible for your optical drive to read only DVDs and not CD. This is most likely a fault with your drive and may need a repair or replacement.

Different discs are read with different focus ranges. Production pressed DVDs are different in thickness that recordable DVDs and CDs are also different than the afore mentioned items. Your optical transport could be out of alignment, but check to see if CDs will play first. If CDs and Production DVDs will play, it is possible that you have a dirty lens or there is something interfering with the laser (i.e. dirt).

Here are a couple of solutions:

If this unit had worked in the past and has started acting up without being droped, jarred, banged, or slammed around, then it may very well be as easy as dirty optics. Get a lens cleaner kit or a Q-tip with a little glass cleaner and clean off the lens of the optical transport.

If this does not work:

You will need to see what the optical transport is doing. The door needs to be opened and the switch that tells the player the door is closed needs to be tripped (usually with a paper-clip or small tool). Watch the optical transport to make sure it moves back and forth, up and down BUT DO NOT LOOK INTO THE LENS DIRECTLY as this can cause retinal damage. If it does all these things, then the motors are working properly and the issue is either in the optical alignment or the decoder chip.

If it's the optical alignment, you might be able to open the player and start changing the height of the drive placement so the laser focuses more accurately on the disc. This will require a disc with an opaque or printed side to stay in the drive while you calibrate. You can then safely look at the disc and see the red dot of the laser to determine the size of the dot. The smaller the size, the more in focus the laser is. This calibration must be done for the entire length of the oprical transport track. there are two screws that change this on either end and both muse be checked and calibrated. The optical transport has some focus adjustment capability (hence the up and down motion of the optics), but if the transport is beyond the limited capabilities of the auto focus, it needs to be brought back to correct.
