Question about Astar LTV-3201 32 in. LCD Television
My Astar 32 inch LCD Television is less than 2 years old. About a month ago I had difficulty turning the set on, I would get 4 mini screens of color. To solve the problem I would turn it off and turn it back on until it would reset. Now when I turn the television on I only get a black screen. The LCD light is green but the television does not give me a picture or sound. Initially to resolve this problem I would unplug the set wait a few minutes and replug it, now when I do this I get nothing, just the lcd light but no picture or sound.
Gentlemen, I bought an Astar LTV-32BG (V2) TV from MDG in Canada. It is only 16 months old and there is no picture. I called MDG and they say I am out of luck as Astor has gone bankrupt. I called for service and they say that it sounds like the power board is gone. They say they do not have the parts for and there is no way they can get the parts for it as the co is out of business. I paid over $1000. for it and it looks like I am stuck can you help me? The guy in service says that SHENZHEN KDX in China manufactured Astar in conjunction with the USA/Canada. Please advise. You can reach me by e-mail email@example.com or my cel phone 1-647 297 1902.
WORKED FINE, REMOVED IT FROM THE WALL, WON'T TURN ON

The problem is with the power supply module of the TV. This is a separate electronics module that is easy to disconnect and take out once the back has been opened.
The specific source of trouble in the power supply module are bad electrolytic capacitors. If you are capable of replacing these capacitors, the parts will only cost you between $30 and $50, depending on where you buy them. Unfortunately all the capacitors have to be replaced, unless you have the equipment and the patience to check each one seprately.
If you are handy with a soldering iron, and are comfortable performing basic electronics repairs, it is relatively simple to do this yourself.
Only two words of caution: please note the voltage rating of the original capacitors and ensure that the new capacitors have the same or higher voltage ratings. Secondly, the power supply unit can contain dangerous voltages if the repair attempt is made soon after the TV has been unplugged. Ideally, leave the TV unplugged overnight before attempting this.
Better still, have someone more experienced do this for you.....once you tell him/her what needs to be done.
If you are really into these things, while the back has been removed, re-route the power cable to avoid having it run past the input connectors. This is what introduces that annoying buzz in the speakers.
